I interviewed Angelo David a little while back about Fall 2011 hair trends and, a few weeks ago, I stopped by his gorgeous midtown salon in NYC. It’s rare to find a salon as sun-drenched, airy, and spacious as Angelo David’s in NYC so my trim was particularly pleasurable! Since the salon’s specialty is Couture Hair Extensions and Fillers, they work extensively with long hair, which is why their professional brushes are absolutely amazing.
It’s a constant struggle for me to brush my hair — which is long and frizz-prone — because most brushes are, plain and simple, painful! They pull at your scalp and tear at your roots and it doesn’t seem to matter what the bristles are made of. Angelo David’s are completely different, thank goodness! They’ve got a seemingly perfect balance of nylon and natural boar bristles (David says that the longer nylon bristles separate and control, while the natural boar bristles smooth and condition), that really work to de-tangle even the most knotty hair (which mine was when I walked into the salon! I’m talking bird’s nest…).
On another note, while the salon does everything from mani/pedis and waxing, to cuts and highlights, they’re one of the few spots that work with 100-percent human hair to give their clients extensions and fillers. All of their hair pieces are designed on-site to match each client’s hair texture, type, color, and lifestyle. It was pretty awesome to check-out their studio and see the experts working on the hair pieces; I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much loose human hair in one place! The salon also has a number of private/VIP rooms so you can do all of this in a comfortable, private setting. It’s the hair version of fashion’s Haute Couture!
