My Fashion Challenge: Forget Your Insecurities

I feel like I’m fairly fearless when it comes to fashion, but there’s always that nagging doubt when I see a trend that’s a little out there. Right? (Can I really rock dainty shorts and biker boots? Should I really be wearing this much sparkle?!)

Insecurities hold us back sometimes, and what a shame! Trends are trends for a reason — they’re in one season and out the next. So, if you don’t dabble in them now, you might miss your chance. I want to challenge you all, and myself, to wear exactly what we want for the coming season. Fall fashion is now hitting the stores, and I don’t want you to miss out on any of it.

Can I share my fashion insecurities with you?

Maxi skirts. I adore these. I think they look so cute on celebs, and there are so many ways you can mix them up. But I have a small tick when it comes to the length. Too short just doesn’t work for me personally. Too long and I feel like I’m tripping over the hem (that would look super-silly). So every time I see a maxi skirt in my closet, I try it on and often hang it back up.

Blazers. I used to wear these all the time, but now I spend a lot of time in a low-key setting. Girls don’t dress up — they wear whatever is comfiest and coziest and could probably care less about “trends” or “Chanel”. I’ve never asked most of them, but it doesn’t appear that way. And I always feel like a walking target when I’m dressed up and others are not. Isn’t that a classic fear when you attend a public event? (I’ll be overdressed!) I have this fear, too. So sometimes I refrain from my favorite blazers.

Leopard-print. Animal prints are so hot, and I have the cutest pair of harem pants that are actually flattering in this chic print! But for some reason, I hold back on wearing them. Is this too much trend and I just don’t realize it? Will people on the street be thinking, Come on…

You see, that’s the big question, though. If I like it, why do I care what they think? …

I have no answer to that question. So, this fall, I am going to do my best to forget my fashion insecurities. I’m going to partake in all the trends I love, without holding back (we might only get once chance!). Will you join me? Can we start a campaign to wear what we want, without the self-conscious second-guessing?

Join me. I think we’ll all be much happier with fall fashion if we wear what we want. And, of course, tell me in the comments what crazy-awesome trends you’re going to wear this fall.
