Summer to Fall: Shop Your Closet for Next Season

Happy Monday, kids! As July is winding down, I can sort of say the same thing about summer. We’re charging toward August and pretty soon we’ll enter a New Year of Fashion–September! So, let’s think fall, okay?

Since I try to be an economical fashionista in these rough times, I’m already thinking about which summer pieces will take me into the fall season. There are plenty, so we can re-work some favorite warm-weather looks for cooler days. Here’s to shopping our closets, ladies! Read on.

The denim shirt. This is a pretty simple piece to mold into fall fare. Instead of pairing your denim shirt with short-shorts, choose darker denim jeans or leggings for fall, if you have an oversize piece to cover your rear, of course. Pair with sleek, tall boots and a messenger bag for extra cool.

The maxi skirt. You can easily take this trendy piece into fall. My favorite way? With lace-up boots. And lots of layers. Choose tanks and long sleeve tees piled on up-top, grab some big bangles as your jewelry piece and work a messenger bag for a mix of no-fuss and dressed-up. It’s all about contrasts!

The prairie dress. For fall, toughen up this pretty-pretty piece. Choose a classic leather jacket and combat boots to make this dress anything but girlish charm. Accessorize with aviator frames, mismatched bracelets and a menswear watch for extra points in the style department.

The nude look. This simplistic look will make its fall debut in a couple of ways. You can wear a dress with a blazer on top, pair with tights and heels and be good to go for cool weather. Or, if you’re a separates girl, a wide-leg pant will look sophisticated for the chicest season in the calendar year, along with a sheer blouse in a skin-tone color.

Okay, so I’m dying to hear about your adventures shopping your closets! Have you had success in past seasons working summer gems into fall looks? Will you be trying your hand at closet-shopping magic this year? Spill in the comments!
