Ask Belinda: Transitional Summer-Fall Pieces

The Question:

Dear Belinda,

I love shopping and do it every chance I get, and while I’ve recently picked up some new items for my summer wardrobe, I realize that we’re half-way through the season. I’d like to start thinking about some transitional pieces that I can wear now and into the fall. What are some of your must-haves?

Thanks,

Cira

Belinda Says…

Dear Cira,

While we still have quite some time left of the warm season, it’s never too early to start thinking ahead! Before we know it, temperatures will cool and we’ll be ready for the fall season. Now, denim cutoffs and flat sandals won’t be the standard quo anymore, so let’s talk about some current hot items – and some that will be a must for fall! – that you’ll be able to wear into the autumn season.

Retro Shades. Summer is all about funky vibes and fashion and, while a touch of retro flair helps to accomplish this, fall is all about polish and being chic. Wayfarers are the perfect retro sunglasses that will transition well into the fall, as well as clubmasters. These will compliment the classic preppy look (think Ralph Lauren) that is so parallel to fall.

Bronze. I’m not talking about a tan here, either. I’m talking about bronze bling! Rose gold was hot for spring and summer, which will also be suitable for early fall, but the must-have metal for autumn is bronze. From necklaces to bracelets, earrings to rings, think vintage, garden-inspired pieces with floral and vine designs.

Bohemian prints. The sunny seasons brought a slew of fun prints ranging from abstract to tribal, but from these it’s the bohemian prints and eclectic styles that will easily live on through the fall. When I think of bohemian style, I think earthy hues and rich textures, making this a ‘Do’ for fall.

Summer Booties. What exactly is a summer bootie? Your basic bootie with a little breathing space. Think cutouts, slingbacks, peeptoes and basically anything that won’t have your tootsies completely restricted!

Pops of Color. ‘Tis the year of color surprises, so you can be sure that the bold and bright color trend will lapse over into the fall. Brighten up a typically dark fall wardrobe with statement pieces in rich, stand-out colors. Think cobalt blue, purple, Kelly green and marigold yellow for purses, scarves, nail polish or solid garments.

And, as always, happy stylin’!
