Summer Apparel & Accessories: 5 Must-Have Versatile Pieces

It’s always good when you can get mileage out of a single piece. When you calculate out the cost per wear for an item and that cost is low, it’s like a small win for you, your wallet and your wardrobe! So, without having to break out the mathematical tools, how about I give you the quick guide to summer pieces you’ll wear all the time?

Scarves. Pick up some colorful silk scarves. I love printed ones, nautical ones and brights. All super-bold and super-pretty for summer! It’s best if they have length so you can wear them wrapped around your neck on a breezy morning or tie them in your hair for a bohemian vibe. You can also wrap an extremely long scarf several times around your waist and wear it like an obi-belt. You’ve got a lot of options here!

White button-down. This is one of those pieces that can go from workday to weekend in a flash! For weekend, wear it with bold sunglasses, loose waves, cut-offs, a menswear watch and ballet flats. For work, pair the button-down with a sleek bun, a bold necklace, a pair of wide-leg pants and heels.

Wide-brimmed hat. This hat will go from the beach to the sidewalk! I always take my wide-brimmed hat on vacation and wear it by the pool. It’ chic, but still blocks out the sun’s rays. And if I have a wet head from swimming, but need some sustenance, I toss on a maxi-dress, sunglasses and flip-flops with the hat and then head out for lunch. If you’re a pool-goer, it’s a summer essential.

Long, colorful necklaces. Of course, you can wear long necklaces long (obviously), but you can also wrap them several times for a more sophisticated look, or wear them as bracelets. Sometimes, I layer several long necklaces on my wrist to get a chunkier vibe. Not bangles, but a gathered look. Try it out!

Tailored, black shorts. I wear my black shorts all summer. You can pair them with heels or with flip-flops, and both ways work well. Look for a pair that’s tailored; it has a stitched up roll at the bottom. That way, it won’t look sloppy if you want to wear them with your versatile button-down and wedges for work!
