Ask Belinda: Day-to-Night Essentials

The Question:

Dear Belinda,

I often have after-work events that require some kind of outfit change, but I don’t always have a lot of time in between for a full-on makeover. How can I go from office to dinner-and-cocktails without having to carry an entire change of clothes or spend too much time getting ready? Thanks!

Hi Daisy,

You aren’t alone! There are many gals out there who are constantly on the go and can’t find enough time to re-vamp their style. However, the good news is that, you don’t need to carry an entirely different outfit to go from business to party. All you need are a few key items to transform your look in no time! Here are my must-have day-to-night essentials:

1. Bold Lipstick. When you’re really in a pinch for time, the best way to change your look is with a bold lip. Red is sassy and adds instant glam, or choose one of the season’s hot shades (orange, hot pink, coral). The great thing about lipstick is that it takes up no space in your purse and can be carried around anywhere!

2. Sleek Clutch. Leave that bulky, holds-my-entire-life carryall behind and trade it in for a compact and sleek clutch. You don’t need to carry around your digital tablet or entire makeup bag for happy hour with the girls – all you need is your lipstick, phone, money and keys!

3. Sassy Heels. Sometimes all you need to change up your entire look is a stand-out pair of heels. Kick off your office loafers and slip into a sexy pair of strappy sandals or colorful pumps. This, paired with the next day-to-night essential will have you ready for a night on the town.

4. Statement Jewelry. Perhaps your office look consists of some dressy jeans, blazer and crisp button down; add some sparkle with a couple of statement pieces! A chunky necklace or sparkly earrings will glam-ify you in a snap, as well as some stacked bangles or some cocktail rings. Caution: Don’t go overboard! Just stick with a couple of pieces at once.

5. A Fun Top. Sometimes all it takes is one garment to change the entire direction of your look. Add some life to your office slacks and/or blazer with a colorful or sparkly top.

You can mix and match any of these essentials to create the look you want. You can also change your look by switching up your hairdo; if you wear your hair down, throw it up in a chignon, if you’re wearing it up, let your hair loose! I hope these tips help you as much as they’ve helped me – happy stylin’!

All the best,

Belinda
