Happy Wednesday, stylistas! OK – who’s excited for the long weekend ahead? I know I am! The weather’s been topsy-turvy as of late here in “sunny” Southern California but, today, the sun is shining and the temperature is pleasing. Finally. So, in anticipation of the official/unofficial summer kick-off this weekend (a.k.a. Memorial Day), I thought I’d share with you some of the do’s and don’ts of one of summer’s must-have wardrobe staples: Shorts.
DO: Stock up on shorts. The temperatures are only going to rise from here until September, so why not stay cool and stylish with a wardrobe full of leg-showcasing bottoms? There’s a style for every occasion, so start shopping!
DON’T: Be afraid of color and fun prints. Shorts in bold hues and fun prints are hot this season. From striking yellows to electric blues, feminine florals to geometric prints, the options are endless and waiting to be explored!
DO: Prep your legs. The best accessory for a great pair of shorts is a great pair of legs. Exfoliate, smoothe, moisturize and tan those bad mamma jammas! Check out our Summer-Perfect Legs slideshow to browse through some of our top beauty picks for great summer gams.
DON’T: Go too short, or too tight. Ok gals, let’s get one thing clear: Shorts are articles of clothing, not undergarments. Keep things classy and stylish with a decent hem length and proper fit. If your pocket linings (or certain parts of your backside, ahem) exceed the length of your hem, then your bottoms are too short. Shorts that are skin-tight are also a no-no. Go up a size if you have too, it’s ok (and much better than having sever panty lines).
DO: Balance your look. Offset a nice, flowy top with a pair of straight-leg shorts for a casual and relaxed look. Feeling hip and trendy? Mix it up with a pair of high-waist shorts and a crop top (a hot look this season).
DON’T: Forget the romper! A fun way to rock shorts this season is by way of a romper. Linen, chambray and flowy fabrics make for a great summer romper, especially when paired with some cute flat sandals, a fedora and eclectic jewelry.
DO: Wedge it up. A great way to sass up a pair of shorts is with a sexy pair of wedge sandals. This will dress up your casual bottoms instantly and add length to your legs, especially if the sandals are in the nude family.
