Happy Blogger Tuesday, y’all! Uh… um… so, it is Blogger Tuesday. That is a fact. However, today I’m taking a small break from Smarter.com’s regularly scheduled programming to bring you a few need-to-know hair tips for the summer season. But in the weeks to come, get ready. I’m lining up a great blogger style feature I know you’re all going to love.
In the meantime: Hair. Let’s talk about it. When the weather gets warmer, don’t you ever get the urge to just abandon your hair regimen? I totally do. I can’t stand using heat tools on my strands in the summer (except on uber-special occasions). It’s already sticky and hot out anyway. I don’t need to further stress my locks! So, how do I still keep my hair looking fabulous? With these tips:
Embrace your natural texture. If you have curly hair, stop fighting it. If you have straight hair, let it air dry and keep your natural oils intact. Put away the irons. A lot of the time, it takes very minimal effort to find a pretty style for your very-natural locks. Which leads me to my next point.
Use wave-enhancing sprays. Not gels. Not mousses. For summer, it’s all about lightweight sprays. Absolutely any hair type can use a wave-enhancing spray. For straight hair, create texture. Part damp hair down the middle, spritz through strands, shake your hair out, then lightly create a side part for volume as your hair dries. For wavy hair, get beachy locks. Simply spritz over your hair and watch the spray work its magic. For curly hair, let your ringlets go loose. They’ll go limp with zero product. With the spray, they’ll be pretty and flowing. I recommend Aussie Sprunch Spray in Strong Hold. It’s fantastic.
Create your own braids. Braiding is such a nifty hair trick, because you can totally make up braiding techniques as you go along. I do it all the time. Braid a small face-framing piece in the front of your head, make a french braid that twists along the back and gathers into a side pony… the options are endless.
Add in hair accessories. I have one piece of advice: Get a cute flower clip. One simple accessory, and it’s an insta-outfit update.
Don’t forget hairspray and a diffuser. For summer, part of creating texture is using a great, flexible-hold hairspray to set your locks and get great volume (I am a huge hair-volume advocate). Also, use a diffuser to dry your hair when you have the time. It’s less stress since it only channels the heat and doesn’t blow at the shaft of your hair, but it’s great for getting lift. Pick up hair with the prongs of the diffuser and cool blast at the roots. You’ll have pretty, voluminous waves in no time at all.
