I don’t know if any of you knew this, but there was a wedding this past weekend. A few people went, and a few more watched it on television. It was nice…
…just kidding, lovelies. Was the royal wedding not the most gorgeous event ever? The princess got her prince, and we got an iconic moment for our lifetimes. I can’t wait to do it all over again! *ahem* Harry *ahem* …but until that point, we can always rehash the Duke and Duchess’ nuptials.
Let’s talk about Kate’s look, shall we? Princess Catherine donned an Alexander McQueen gown, complete with ten-foot train, a deep V-neckline and a stunning take on lace sleeves that had observers noting the resemblance to fellow-princess Grace Kelly when she wed back in the 50′s. As for me? I was obsessed.
So much so, I am pretty sure that you need to steal those lace sleeves for your springtime wardrobe. Actually, forget that. It’s essential that you steal them. There are a couple great ways to wear princess-like lace this season:
1. Dress it down… I am a huge advocate for contrasts. Masculine and feminine, hard and soft, edgy and sweet–I am all about the unexpected. I love this style aesthetic! So toned-down lace is like sartorial paradise for me, lovelies. Since lace is generally a really dressy fabric, pair a classy piece with something a little more low-key. Wear a long-sleeve, ivory lace top with a pair of cut-offs and bright wedge sandals. The cutoffs will make the look totally everyday wearable. And don’t forget to accessorize. Infuse some color into your outfit in those heels, in a long necklace and in sunglasses (I am all about red, yellow and electric blue these days… bold hues rock, my friends).
2. Dress it up… While I love the effortless vibe of lace and cutoffs, a long-sleeve, ivory lace top will still look fabulous paired with a skirt. Choose a high-waisted, floaty silhouette in a print for something that’ll stand out, then pair with sophisticated black heels and a great chain-strap bag. Channel the new Royal’s chic sensibilities and modern charm to pull off this look.
All right, kids. Who is going to take a page out of Kate’s style book and rock some lace sleeves this spring? And who do you think looked best at the royal wedding? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Sound off in the comments.
