I told y’all I was going to spotlight this trend, one of my favorites of the season, so I finally am! It’s “underwear as outerwear,” sweet friends. And I am obsessed.
Now, before you become aghast, think I’ve gone off the deep end, or assume this trend is a little too scandalous for you, let me make my case for it. And also, let me assure you this trend is pretty darn classy with just a hint of sex appeal. It’s not literally wearing your underwear out on the street or anything. (Sorry to disappoint.) The key to pulling this look off is all in the coverage. So here are three ways you can work this idea for spring and summer:
Look #1: The Corset. A corset top is great in a lot of ways, because it smooths and accentuates in all the right places. It gives your bust a subtle lift and provides structure through the trunk of your body. Plus, an embellished number like this one is practically like a fancy top. Nothing too scandalous there! Pair with a high-waisted skirt that hits just above the knee for a cute-and-classy look.
Look #2: The Slip Dress. This idea is laid back and incredibly easy. Make sure the slip dress is loose and flowing, so the silky material won’t cling to you. Then, top the dress with an oversize boyfriend blazer for plenty of coverage and a perfect play on masculine and feminine to boot. Finally, accessorize as desired (or go accessory-free for a no-fuss vibe that’s super chic).
Look #3: The Lace Bra. I know the thought of wearing your bra as an actual piece within a look is sort of intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Again, it’s all in the coverage, so pick out a bra that has plenty of that. This lace demi cup has ample fabric and the feminine detailing and print makes it work. Then, grab a lace top with a hint of see-through and tuck into high-waisted shorts that cinch at the waist. That way, you’re only alluding to sex appeal, not revealing too much.
I’d love to hear what you guys think of these looks. Will you dare to go bold and wear the underwear as outerwear trend? Sound off!
