Feeling tired of lifeless locks? Maybe it’s about time you change your ‘do. But before you head out to the salon, it’s important to figure out what you want in terms of style — and what cut will look best on you based on the shape of your face. I’ve put together a handy-dandy guide for a few helpful tips. Follow along, and then go mix it up. Change is good!
Face shape: Square… a strong jawline and forehead.
Celebs counterparts: Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow
Best Cut: The key to your cut is softening the angles. The best way to do this is with face-framing layers. Choppy ends will also look great with your shape, and don’t be afraid to style is sleek or with big curls. Either way, you’ll look great.
Face shape: Oval… a longer face with a chin more narrow than the temples.
Celebs counterparts: Kate Hudson, Tyra Banks, Jessica Alba
Best Cut: Well, oval ladies, you can wear absolutely any cut. Short, long, layered, blunt bangs — you name it, you can pull it off. I wish I could narrow down your hairstyle choices, but I’m afraid I can’t. You’ll have to decide from the loads of cuts out there. Oh, what a shame, right?
Face shape: Round… face is full, from cheeks to chin to hairline.
Celebs counterparts: Fergie, Renee Zellweger, Michelle Williams
Best Cut: Bangs look pretty on round faces, so consider a side-swept or long style. You also might want to think about a cut that’s short and sweet, falling just past the chin. An edgy look? Rihanna’s swingy, angular bob. The layered back will also create flattering volume.
Face shape: Heart… wide at temples, narrows toward chin.
Celebs counterparts: Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes
Best Cut: A long, layered cut with side-swept bangs is perfect on you, similar to the look Reese Witherspoon often rocks. You could also take a cue from Katie Holmes and do a mid-length bob. Just make sure to keep bangs long and pushed to the side. Those will create an angle to mirror your chin’s lines. Extremely pretty!
