Spring 2011 Hair Trends: Right off the Runway

Sometimes what you need to amp up your look lies in your tresses. Just ask anyone who attended any of the Spring 2011 runways. That’s right, the ‘do you sport can make or break an outfit, and what better way to learn than from the trend-setters themselves? This spring we’re lucky to have many options; from down ‘do’s to up ‘do’s; messy to polished, there’s a style bound to strike a note with you. So to get ready for the upcoming spring months, I’ve outlined the top hair style trends to try this season, straight off the spring Fashion Week runways.

Natural and Messy. Let down your tresses just as they please! Very in tune with the laid back character of the 70′s, the runways showed us that natural, unruly waves are the new sexy down ‘do. There’s no better way to get this look than by letting your hair dry naturally and tousling the hair with your fingers.

Sleek and Shiny. Get a dramatic runway look with a slicked back do or perfectly sleek long hair. The slicked back look works best with shorter hairstyles, such as a bob (think Arizona Muse). If you have  long hair, get the sleek runway look by blow-drying your hair straight (or using a flat iron), part your hair to the side and spritz tresses with your favorite hair shine.

Braids. There were lots of braids seen on the runways, in a many forms. From thick braids to skinny braids, this trend was woven into up-dos, seen on side ponytails, and used as a peek-a-boo element in long, loose, wavy hairstyles.

Buns. The bun is having a major moment right now and it comes in many sizes, textures and heights. From crowning buns to ones low at the nape of the neck, this hair style can be knotted, twisted, or worn classically in a simple manner, as well as done voluminously or on a smaller scale.

Supreme Side Parts. The side part was a spring runway staple for many shows and was incorporated into a variety of different hairstyles. Create an extreme part on the side which works best for you; sleek pony tails, side-pinned curls (with bobby pins or barrettes) or a sleek and shiny down ‘do all work great with the side part.

Bangs. Bangs are back and in command! This time they are heavier, thicker and blunt on the ends. If you opt to go this route, have the bangs fall just below your eyebrows for a true runway look. If you don’t want to commit to permanent bangs, try playing with a pair of clip-ons, but make sure the color matches your hair nearly to perfection.

Low Ponytails. This is the most versatile and simple hair trend of all. Keeping the pony tail low, wear this trend neatly with sleek, flat-ironed tresses, with a little teased volume on the back of your head, on the side draping over your shoulder, or naturally pulled back out of your face.

So many hairstyles and only one mane! Now the hard part is to decide which one you want to try out first. I’m leaning towards the braids and low pony tails, how about you? Which style do you like most? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!

I love the styles that were on the runway at Fashion Week! The smooth, sleek looks can be effortless with a Gloss Moderne treatment. It is the newest keratin smoothing treatment that is formaldehyde-free. It left my hair feeling so silky smooth, and I am still able to use my natural texture.
