I’ll have to admit that, more than the awards ceremony itself, it’s the pre-ceremony red carpet fashion show that I love the most about the Grammys – and any awards show for that matter! So it’s no surprise that today I would be sharing with you the highs and lows of the 53rd GRAMMY Awards Show fashion. Among the most popular trends were animal prints, blue patterns and gold frocks – some worn much better than others, of course. So without further ado, here are the best and worst looks of this year’s GRAMMY Red Carpet.
Best Look
1. Selena Gomez in J. Mendel – Fashion Bravo! to this young starlet. She really knocked ‘em dead with this gorgeous form-fitting gold gown and kept her look elegant and very appropriate for her age.
2. LeAnn Rimes in Reem Acra – Another one of the many Golden Girls on the red carpet last night, the songstress looked ultra sophisticated in this gold v-neck dress.
3. Kelly Osbourne in Tadashi – Not only is this dress beautiful, the rock princess certainly wore it well. Showing off her svelte figure, Kelly let her feminine side come out perfectly and gracefully. Love the dress, the shoes, the blond hair and makeup!
4. Julianne Hough in Malandrino – Not only is this gown figure-flattering, the funky, colorful pattern was an excellent choice for the evening.
5. Jennifer Hudson in Versace – What a great dress to show off her slender physique! This dress had it all; sophistication, sparkle and flattering appeal.
Honorable Mention
1. Jennifer Lopez in Emilio Pucci – This shiny mosaic mini dress was straight out fun. It was accessorized perfectly and J-Lo looked absolutely stunning in it!
2. Sara Bareilles in Ghadah Paris – Hello, Lady in Red! Loved the classic look of her gown and polished up-do. The perfect look for the red carpet.
3. Miley Cyrus in Roberto Cavalli – The former Disney star showed off a grown-up look in a metallic animal print boho gown.
Worst Look
1. Nicki Minaj in Givenchy Haute Couture – Bride of Frankenstein on safari? Animal print is great, but from head-to-toe is a major fashion faux pas. Oh yeah, and I believe cotton candy goes in your tummy, not on your head.
2. Lady Gaga – Need I say more? The only person ever to show up to the Grammys in an egg, her yellow-latex-covered-Marilyn-Manson-out-of-the-shell look on stage definitely made me cringe.
3. Ciara in Emilio Pucci – Those gladiator heels were totally wrong for this dress. Wait – this dress was totally wrong! I am surprised to see that her get-up has made some top lists out there. Really? This dress is all too revealing and crying out for too much attention.
4. Rihanna in Jean Paul Gaultier– I’m not sure what she was going for here, but the see-though dress left very little to the imagination and reminded me of a multi-layered, walking wedding cake.
5. Hayley Williams in Jeremy Scott – This dress looks like a cheesy dance competition costume circa 1990. Very unflattering on her figure, this black and hot pink frock made the Paramore front lady look like a little girl playing dress up.
There were several others that didn’t make the best look list, of course (Hello, Cyndi Lauper, Snooki and Willow Smith!), but these five certainly made my eyes want to turn away in embarrassment. Kudos to all the celebs who kept things sophisticated and classy! What were your favorite celeb looks? Which do you think were the worst? Share in the comments section below!
