How to Get Geek Chic Style

There’s a new look in town, and it’s a little bit nerdy. But also cool. But also nerdy. So what else can we call it, but “geek chic”? Unsure why you would want to wear anything with geek in the label? Let me try to convince you. I don’t want you missing out on one of my favorite trends!

Sometimes, we need to throw that perfect style out the window and add a slightly offbeat accessory that changes the essence of a look. It cracks that pulled-together facade that can ruin the effortless, innate sense of style we all want to master. Embrace a little bit of your geek-hood (because we all have it). It’s extremely simple to do because all you need is one piece: a pair of nerdy glasses! Let’s talk about how to work them into your look. They might seem slightly too indie-hipster at first, but trust me, you are going to want to try out this trend. The likes of Grace Kelly, Cate Blanchett, Scarlett Johansson, Justin Timberlake and Johnny Depp have all rocked the nerdy lenses, so you’ll be in good company.

If you are naturally a little near- or far-sighted, then ditch the contacts and opt for a cute pair of oversize glasses. The trick is to find a frame that is slightly square-shaped and thick. Pick classic black or brown to avoid overdoing it. And then, wear it with anything you want. I recently wore my glasses with skinny jeans, lace-up boots and a thick winter scarf. In the past, I’ve worn them with wide-leg jeans, an oxford shirt and heels to evoke major intelligence. And when are smarts not in style?

If you don’t need glasses (and I envy all you kids with 20/20 vision), then you can still fake it and work this trend. I recently popped into Urban Outfitters and spotted a pair of nerdy-chic glasses for just $10 in basic black. I won’t lie to you, readers: They were so fashion-savvy that I almost bought them, even though I own my very own pair of real geek-lenses! But the point is this: There is no reason to miss this trend. It’s insta-fabulosity cred if you hit the street with this adorable accessory.

Have you embraced this geek-chic style? Do you plan on buying a pair of nerdy frames? Sound off!
