You all know I have been desperately waiting for spring. With baited breath. With my sunglasses and warm-weather trends prepped and ready to go in my closet behind the piles of sweaters and thick jeans.
It’s funny. Because here I’ve been sitting around and hoping for the sunshine and temperature to rise, while the fabulous blogger Erika of Style Activist has out-smarted me in the sartorial department. Instead of waiting for the cold and rain to go away, she has managed to fake warm weather. Yes, I know. She’s a total genius. (If you don’t believe me, check out her blog!)
How did she come up with this amazing idea? She told us in her blog. “I took one look at my striped top, opened my closet door and walked in only to let out a long, snarly grunt,” Erika said. “I am so over the cold and ready for sunshine! The temperatures were in the forties today in Virginia, so I said – ‘We’re going Spring, baby!’ So I went a little resort wear.” I am so glad she did.
For our style breakdown today, it’s all about looking ahead to spring when the weather is still chilly and totally faking it. Erika’s look will be our guide, because it’s spot on. Let’s get started, shall we?
Stripes. A big trend for the upcoming season is stripes, so work them into your look right away. Here, Erika is rocking an oversize tee tucked into her jeans, but you could also wear a long sleeve shirt as a warmer option with the same nautical effect. But either way, definitely still belt it. Belting is always a good idea!
Accessories. Something fun, like the gorgeous turquoise stones in this necklace, will scream statement spring jewelry. And the color is absolutely divine. Opt for turquoise or lapis. A bold blue is the way to go, especially when paired with a pretty coral like the one in the stripes of Erika’s shirt.
Wide-legged pants. For me, spring is definitely in session with that wide leg. So channel this fabulous bloggista with an oversize pant. The light blue is an especially good option, shying away from the drab grays of winter. But you could also wear a simple jean as another stunning idea.
Color. It’s time to be playful! There is no rule that you must adopt that black color palette until spring. So, don’t. Like Erika has, work pinks and blues into your wardrobe, maybe a touch of yellow and a little dash of lavender. Just put away the charcoal, OK?
Hair. A spring hair trend on the rise is the side-pony, and Erika’s is utterly glam… and simple! They key to making this hairstyle perfect is that is should be completely un-perfect. Don’t brush your hair. Leave in some natural texture. Don’t smooth out all the bumps. Keep it loose and effortlessly gorgeous. Gather to the side at the nape of your neck, twist in an elastic and go.
Polish. I am loving the baby-blue on Erika’s nails — light, airy, springtime sky blue. Adopt a beauty philosophy that includes some unexpected elements. You can always have fun with polish, so go soft and pretty or bold and daring to become a pre-spring style standout.
The little details, like your nail color, count when you’re faking warm weather! Just ask Erika. She would tell you.
