Do’s and Don’ts: Men’s Style

Although fashion almost always revolves around us women (then again, why shouldn’t it?), we always forget that men, too, can be sartorially adept. However, just as some  gals make stylistic mistakes (ahem, I’m looking at you black-bra-under-white-tee friend…), men also make less-than-favorable fashion and style decisions. So with that said, today I bring you the Do’s & Don’ts of men’s style. Surely you didn’t think I was going to let you fellas off the hook, did you?

DO: Clean Up. The most basic part of any man who wants to look great, grooming should be a number one priority. Keep your mane tamed with a good wash and cut, and maintain a clean shave, or a well-groomed beard and/or mustache. Sasquatch is a pretty scary monster, so why would you want to look like him? Only apply a reasonable amount of cologne, too — don’t douse yourself with it! The ladies will appreciate your impeccable grooming and be more inclined to come near you.

DON’T: Be afraid to shop. This is a dodgy subject for many guys, I know. But let’s face it; those jeans won’t last forever, and you’ll have to buy new ones eventually. Updating your wardrobe can be refreshing and fun; be open to new styles and a new and improved you. There is so much going on in men’s fashion these days that you will certainly find something to suit your taste. Aren’t sure where to start? Don’t be shy, and ask a lady friend to help out! You know that we gals love to shop, and we’re more than happy to steer you in the right direction.

DO: Dress to impress. OK, guys, this is a biggie, so listen up! Many a time I have gone to the movies or out to dinner with friends and observed couples in dating action. The common denominator of most couples? The girl was all dolled up and the guy, well, he was dressed down. Why?! Fellas, your lovely dates spend a great amount of time (sometimes hours!) preparing for a date, all for the sake of looking pretty — just for you. And it works, right? So, wouldn’t you like your date to be pleasantly surprised and impressed by your cool and dapper style? Next time you’re headed for a date, make the extra effort to clean up and dress up. Your girl will definitely notice, as well as love your groomed and pulled-together look.

DON’T: Show your under-bits. This is a catastrophic mistake made by some guys. Pants worn far below the waist, exposing boxers and briefs? Really? I think not, my friends. Unless you are a professional rapper, I highly recommend pulling up your pants and cinching on a belt. Similarly, shirts should always be worn when out in public (unless you are at the beach, of course). If it’s hot, then put on a cool and stylish tank — not to be confused with a tight white undershirt, which is an undergarment.

DO: Wear clothes that fit. Oversized, baggy clothing is not a good look, fellas. Wear garments that fit properly, and if needed, get pants and suits tailored. Be confident and don’t be afraid to let your healthy and attractive physique be noticed in properly fitted clothing.

DON’T: Write off the suit. Suits may not be something you want to wear every day, but they are a definite fashion Yes and an instant way to clean up your look. Retro-inspired tailored suits have been back on the scene for some time now and are a big thumbs up in every gal’s book. Mark Ronson and Zac Efron are perfect examples of how to wear a tailored suit while still looking cool and contemporary. Put on one of these bad boys, and you will be amazed by how many girls’ heads turn your way for a second look!

Now, that wasn’t too bad, was it? I love a well-dressed guy. But then again, most girls do. So, why not bring your A-game and impress the ladies? You have nothing to lose and only a date — or two — to gain! The best part? You will look great all the while and be glad you remembered these very basic, but very important Do’s & Don’ts. Good look and good luck!
