Winter is traditionally known for a sea of blacks, grays and browns in the clothing department. The fall-winter runway collections were all about minimalism and a basic color palette. It is scheme of the season. The colors match the drab winter skies.
I love my blacks and grays. But, I am also loving some of the street style photos IÂ’ve seen recently, where stylish girls across the country are incorporating brights into their looks. There is nothing like a punch of red, emerald, yellow, fuchsia or purple to make your outfit really pop. Stand out against the crowd the sea of bland. ItÂ’s easy. Just follow these tips.
Grab a bright jacket. Jewel toned coats are all the rage this season, and there are a lot of wonderful options. Pick a pea coat for classic fabulosity or be bold with a colored cape. You have to wear it all the time, so why not choose a bright coat? It might just brighten your day, as well.
Choose colored shoes. A pop of color at the feet will always look good. If you are going out, then choose a pink or red heel to accent an all-black look. If youÂ’re running errands, then face the weather in bright Hunter rain boots. Either way, itÂ’s a stylish option.
Accessories are key. You donÂ’t have to be over-the-top bold from head to toe (although, I donÂ’t discourage that). A strategically placed color at the wrist, ear, neck or finger will be just enough to highlight your outfit. So play with bright necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets. If you are a jewelry fanatic, then this is your go-to trend!
Bright headwear can be an unexpected gem. I do love hats. The winter season is perfect for incorporating some great headwear into your look. Pick a red wool cap with a black classic coat and cognac boots for low-key perfection, or amp up your attire with a purple-toned pageboy hat. And don’t underestimate the power of a pretty headband — try a bow in blue or pink. It’s the simplest way to achieve great hair with minimal effort.
I know itÂ’s tempting to live in black while the weather is dreary, but IÂ’m here to make the case for brights. Color can be your new winter staple. Whether you go head to toe or just add the accents, youÂ’ll be fashion forward and ready to face the day. And isnÂ’t that what we all want?
