Back to Black: Five Ways to Wear Your LBD

Every girl must own a little black dress. ItÂ’s practically the number one rule in the style handbook. The most versatile piece of clothing on the planet, the LBD is an iconic wardrobe staple. The dress is perfect on its own or as a blank canvas to showcase amazing accessories. Everyone from Audrey Hepburn to Lady Gaga has rocked a version of the LBD, so no matter what your style philosophy, there is an option for you. Several, in fact.

The LBD is no longer just for special occasions and dressed-up events. Now you can wear the dress in a multitude of ways. Take the loveliest piece in your closet for a whirl with an unexpected twist. Here are five ways to wear it best.

With a cardigan and flats. Rock out your LBD in an everyday way, paired with a long cardigan, leggings and flats. The cardigan should hit at about the same place the hem does and should come in a pretty shade — try a blush tone, lavender or eye-popping electric blue for a mod ensemble.

With boots and a scarf. I like to bend the traditional rules of style, so I suggest a long-sleeved LBD with cognac riding boots and a pretty scarf in a pattern like polka dots, stripes or plaid. Just make sure to spice it up with a little bit of fun.

Strapless version? Add a white tee and tights. I love the low-key look of a white T-shirt under a strapless dress. Pile on plenty of necklaces and slip on a pair of tights — black for the classic girl or a bold hue for a brave soul — and you’re done! Instant chic.

Paired with a blazer. This idea is pretty much good for every outfit. “Throw a blazer on” is the advice I give myself practically every day when I need a style boost. But blazers look particularly excellent paired with an LBD and bright red heels. Go head-to-toe black with the pop of color at your feet. Match your lips with crimson stain and the look is an absolute knockout.

And of course, the classic way. An LBD in classic black with basic pumps and a spattering of fine jewelry will always be right on trend, because this look defies trends. It is truly timeless.

Wear your LBD exactly the way you want to. There are no rules, only ideas. If you can dream up the style, then you can make it work for you. Like I said, the LBD is the blank canvas of fashion. So, paint whatever picture youÂ’d like.

The LBD never gets old or boring. This is thanks to Audrey Hepburn. Before her, the LBD was just a another piece of clothing from our closet .
