Wear With Caution: Avoid Disaster With These Trendy Pieces

Blog readers, I am issuing a warning.

I hate seeing fashionable people fall into the depressing black hole of trends-gone-wrong. You probably know too what I am referring. You walk into the office. You pass someone in your favorite store. You spot a friend at a restaurant. They are wearing the “It” item, but it’s being worn so wrong that it starts to seem like a major style faux-pas.

This scenario might make you think twice before you rock the same trend, and thatÂ’s good! You should always use your stylish judgement when donning any ensemble. But donÂ’t shy away from the seasonÂ’s key pieces because you saw someone commit a crime of fashion. With my guidance as your bloggista-guru, youÂ’ll be able to wear these awesome items the right way.

Fur vests. Rachel Zoe is a supporter of the fur vest trend, and I would have to say that they are completely cozy and fab for fall and winter. But if you arenÂ’t careful, you may wind up looking like an inflated marshmallow or an oversize teddy bear. Not the least bit chic! If the vest is shrunken, wear it open with piled-on necklaces. For larger versions, make sure you cinch at the waist to highlight your smallest part. A cute bow-tied ribbon or thick, bold belt should do the trick. Then, enjoy reveling in the luxury of this piece.

Jumpsuits. These can be frightening when worn wrong. If the jumpsuit is screaming to passerbys, “Hello, I’m a jumpsuit!” then you have a bit of a problem. Proportion is key. Always wear tall heels with the one-piece to lengthen your body. If it’s a neutral like black or gray, add pretty gold earrings and a bangle. If your jumpsuit is a bold shade, then throw on a blazer and push the sleeves up to your elbows for low-key cool without an overdose of an orange, red or magenta color palette.

Boyfriend jeans. Yes, these are boyfriend jeans. No, you should not look like a boy. The baggy nature of these pants requires a little extra stylizing and accessorizing. Not that we mind, of course. Roll the legs of the jeans up just above the ankle and pair with mid-length boots that have a fairly tall heel (roughly three inches should be perfect). Also, try tucking in a fitted shirt and belting the waist (which you probably will have to do anyway since these are loose pants). Glam hair and girlie extras are musts. See, itÂ’s not too hard!

Pencil skirts. Beware of the VPL. Nothing can ruin an outfit like the Visible Panty Line, and pencil skirts are the biggest culprits. There are a couple ideas to keep in mind before stepping out in a pencil skirt. First, make sure your garment is fitted, not tight. You should be able to breathe. It shouldnÂ’t cut off circulation. Not only is that uncomfortable, but it is also a serious symptom of VPL. Second, check the mirror, ladies. Choose your undergarments wisely. Pencil skirts are gorgeous and flattering, but only when they are worn sans VPL.
