Your Do/Don’t Guide for Fall/Winter Trends

If you are still wondering about this seasonÂ’s trends, then I have your fix. ItÂ’s not too-late to rock this yearÂ’shottest cold-weather styles. This is the quick and easy guide to the best of the season, and how to wear it.

DO: Try something unexpected. If you see an item that you love, but maybe wouldnÂ’t usually grab for, try it out. You might be absolutely shocked at how much you love it. You never know when you will stumble across your signature piece.

DONÂ’T: Force a trend. Even if you are dying over how it looks on the hanger, if it doesnÂ’t work when you try it on, then donÂ’t buy it. You will never feel totally fabulous if you donÂ’t completely adore how it looks on your body.

DO: Opt for aviatrix looks. A big trend this season is that of a military-inspired sky warrior. You are not going to want to miss a chance to try out this cool-chic style. From double-breasted pea coats to shearling-lined flying jackets, lace-ups to leather boots, army-green vests to aviator shades, you must pick up a high-soaring piece this season.

DONÂ’T: Fly under-the-radar. I know, I know. Too much of one trend can be sort of a scary concept. But the aviatrix look can definitely be worked head-to-toe, since it is pretty low-key anyway. Try a flying jacket with aviator glasses, skinny pants and leather boots. ItÂ’s a fail-safe combination for cool.

DO: Keep it tailored. Clean-cut pieces were everywhere on the runways, so keep your look sleek, simple and pretty. Perfect items to add to your closet include blazers, wide-legged pants, a crisp button-down, structured bag, and fitted classic coat. These pieces you can wear with anything or together and they will look eternally sophisticated.

DONÂ’T: Look too stuffy. There is a fine-line between tailored and rigid. To balance it out, make sure you wear each piece with an easy elegance. With shirts, leave a few buttons open at the neckline to show off your collarbone. Blazers should be long and lean (they should hit below the hips) and worn open. Liven up your pants with an animal-print or bright belt. Tailored items provide the perfect base to play with fun options.

DO: Layer it up. Chunky knits, warm scarves, an array of gloves, piled on tees, pretty hats, tights and leggings are all in for the season. Wear them together for a look of cozy comfort that is subtle, but sexy. Rag & Bone, Michael Kors and D&G all showed this look and, trust me, it is impossible to do it wrong. This will be your favorite trend of the season!

DONÂ’T: Go too crazy. The only way this look wonÂ’t work is if you ignore colors. When you add in too many brights, youÂ’ll look messy instead of laid-back. Try to stick with one color-palette. Creams, taupes and beiges looked fabulous on the runway, as did charcoals, grays and blacks. If you keep it neutral, then you can add a pop of color to great effect.

WeÂ’re just getting started with best style of the year. So study up on your fashions, pick up your favorite looks and live it up in this seasonÂ’s most exciting trends.
