Past and Present Silver Screen Style Icons

There are some girls who just have that charismatic presence that translates seamlessly into their style. Whether they are the graceful movie stars of a past generation, or the wonderful fashion favorites of today, it’s safe to say style screams from the silver screen in black and white and vivid color.

A lot of my fashion icons are actresses, and with good reason. They have such sophisticated tastes.

IÂ’ve chose two from the past and two from the present whose wardrobes and sartorial smarts are truly something to marvel at. Take a look, and decide whether or not you agree.

Past: Audrey Hepburn. It’s all about Audrey! She basically invented the LBD. She made oversize sunglasses cool before they were deemed a style staple. From her tailored classics in Roman Holiday, to the gorgeous garb she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and finally the chic frocks from Sabrina, she was  Hollywood’s perpetually best-dressed actress on screen.

Present: Rachel McAdams. If anyone evokes old-school elegance with a modern twist, itÂ’s Rachel. She always looks pulled-together and fabulous, and she isnÂ’t afraid to change up her style. She looks as awesome in skinnies, boots and a scarf, as she does in her red-carpet gowns. SheÂ’s the epitome of a contemporary fashion maven. Love her!

Past: Grace Kelly. She was a movie heroine and a real-life princess, which is hard to top in the style department! From her glitzy turn in To Catch a Thief to her later duties as MonacoÂ’s beloved HRH, Grace Kelly was just what her name suggested: graceful, sophisticated and a style icon weÂ’ll continue to celebrate for decades.

Present: Zooey Deschanel. Her turn as the offbeat lead in 500 Days of Summer reminded the fashion world why Zooey is so missed when she isnÂ’t on-screen: She has one-of-a-kind style sensibilities. Her clothes are often a breath of fresh air; slightly quirky, 1940Â’s-ish with a pinch of pattern and a dash of fun surprise. Never too revealing or trendy, she goes against the grain of todayÂ’s stars. And it works to perfect effect.

So, who are your style icons? Do they match mine? Did I choose the wrong ladies? Let me know any thoughts in the comments. IÂ’d love to hear them.
