There is nothing like Fashion Week to send our collective style-hearts aflutter. I know it has barely inched into
the fall season, but already I am ecstatic about whatÂ’s in store for us beyond the snow and ice for next spring.
A few hints? Comfort will be key. We are going to see a fresh take on old classics. ThereÂ’s a citrusy hue re-emerging. And wide-leg trousers are here to stay. ItÂ’s time to take a peek inside fashionÂ’s crystal ball.
Wide-leg pants. This trend screams super-stylish working woman. And whatÂ’s even better? These trousers are found in loose materials that sway easily. TheyÂ’re so comfortable. ItÂ’s like wearing sweats to the workplace that actually look amazing. Could this be the best trend ever?!
Flatforms. Michael Kors did us well this season. We wonÂ’t be breaking our ankles in our massive wedge heels, because the designer introduced us to an alternative to platforms: flatforms! Like the traditional tall shoe, these will give us some height. But instead of dipping down in a pain-inducing heel, these are flat for comfort. Michael is a genius. How come it took so long for this trend to make its way to runways? WeÂ’ll never know.
Orange. Forget red. The bright to rock this spring is even more adventurous. Marc Jacobs, J. Mendel and Prabal Gurung sent out amazing orange looks, from lengthy pencil skirts to little orange dresses and citrus-striped tops. Watch out, wallflowers. This look is a standout.
Loose clothing. There was a noticeably laid-back feel to a lot of shows, and it was awesome to see clothes that looked comfortable gallivanting down catwalks. Michael Kors again did us proud this season with flowing frocks. 3.1 Phillip Lim had some seriously divine shorts and sweater looks for lazy days. And breezy silhouettes were staples at Jason Wu. Spring styles are going to be a welcome treat.
Fun accessories. A girlÂ’s best friend, the perfect accessory piece completes any outfit. There are a host of chic options that debuted this season. Rock a preppy bag like those seen at Tommy Hilfiger, bold bangles taking a hint from Marc Jacobs, or bold scarves and bow waist-cinchers from DKNY. When remembering the shades of the season, itÂ’s simple: if itÂ’s bright, striped or printed, itÂ’s totally in.
I hope this sneak preview of spring’s hottest trends will keep you going through the cold winter. Just wait—there are bright days (and brighter trends) on the horizon.
