So, I will admit that when the word “minimalism” began to float around the fall fashion scene this season, I was
highly skeptical. I was anticipating lively clothes that stood out in a crowd, and I felt like the designers were letting me down in a big way. IsnÂ’t minimalism styleÂ’s code word for bland? I thought.
But soon I started to take in all the wonderful looks from the runways, and the puzzle pieces gradually started to fall into place. Ah-ha! This is why industry insiders are going ga-ga for this trend.
It’s très chic, lovelies. Sometimes subtlety speaks louder than any printed, bright or sparkly frock ever could. This season is all about sophistication. And sleek style will always, always be in fashion.
What is the most important idea to remember? Minimalism does not mean boring! There are a few ways to incorporate the trend in your own way.
Shades of gray. Gray was the color of the season. Just ask the style universeÂ’s reigning king Marc Jacobs, who sent his models down the runway head-to-toe in the hue. Why not use MarcÂ’s wisdom as a guide and incorporate gray into your look. All-gray ensembles are great when you vary the shades. An outfit consisting of a pair of stone-colored skinnies, a charcoal sweater and some gray boots is a perfect way to work this trend. A simple black carryall will complete the look and break up the color block a bit without losing the power of the monochrome. Try it out.
Power suit. WhatÂ’s the ultimate way to exude confidence this season? Own one well-tailored power suit. ItÂ’s the working womanÂ’s staple, but has been updated this fall for a modern take on the classic look. The most important detail is that it fits like a glove. Try a suit that pairs wide-leg trousers with a fitted blazer on top. Add in a crisp white shirt, and youÂ’ll have effortless elegance. Keep accessories simple. In fact, I would limit it to one: A bold menswear watch. Then slide on a pair of sky-high heels or ankle boots and youÂ’ll be ready to conquer the working world, or any place, for that matter.
Camel. Camel is back this season, and looking better than ever. An amazing camel coat is the luxurious piece every woman needs in her closet because it will never go out of style. Invest in one that you love. Its versatility makes it timeless; you can wear it to the office, out on the town or while running errands. YouÂ’ll be cozy and completely classic and fashion-forward at the same time. Got to love that!
So forget what you used to think about minimalism, because in reality, itÂ’s the boldest trend of the season. Incorporate these ideas and get on board.
