Look closely at your big toe. I bet you have hairs on it!
How about your knuckles or below your belly button? What about under your chin!? Do you have hair in funny places? ItÂ’s natural! So donÂ’t worry that thereÂ’s something wrong. IÂ’ve even seen women with full-on mustaches before. But does excessive body hair on other women or your person bother you? Do you shave or your Nair your toes? How about that treasure trail?
Women are expected to be hairless nowadays, but thereÂ’s such a huge focus on the bikini line, and simply being bare down there, that we donÂ’t address the other areas where hair removal might be desirable or how other less porn-ified cultures are about it. Maybe it just doesnÂ’t matter, but IÂ’m curious all the same.
Many Middle Eastern and Indian female friends of mine thread their eyebrows, faces and forearms. Some other friends have their lower backs waxed. Some will go full-on Hollywood bikini wax and then let their armpit hair grow like Julia Roberts did on the red carpet that one year. Others laser their armpits and have never let a drop of wax inside their knickers. IÂ’ve even know women to shave the sides of their faces (by their so-called sideburns)!
My personal routine? Shaving my legs (and yes, big toes), when I can remember it, a regular(ish) bikini wax, the occasional eyebrow thread to shape and a bit of a trim of the peach fuzz because itÂ’s not dark enough to wax and risk the serious irritation that replaces the hair and is just as unsightly.
Would you ever just let it all grow out? What do you think about the obsession with body hair and getting rid it? Worth all the money and pain? Just another blow to feminism? What do you think?
