Just Like An Ogre, You Need Layers

During the blazing heat of summer, skin is definitely in for many of the young, buff and beautiful. Short shorts, miniskirts, bikinis, and other things that would my mother blush. God Bless you ladies. When it gets to this time of the year, Mother Nature gets a little bipolar on us and starts shifting her moods.

During the day, the temperatures reach in the ’90s or above, but when the sun starts to go down, temperatures can plummet into the ’60s. A waifish socialite garnering sustenance from spring water and lemon Jell-O will start shivering once the temp drops below the mid-’70s. For those of us with a little extra meat on our bones, the chills may not set in for a while longer.

The easiest remedy for this is to plan ahead and make sure you have a few fashionable layers to wear once the mercury starts to fall.

By layers, I donÂ’t mean to conjure up a picture of RalphieÂ’s poor brother in A Christmas Story all bundled up and unable to move his arms. It’s 70, not negative 30. A summer/ fall layering system doesnÂ’t need to consist of more than three layers. If you need more, then itÂ’s time to pack it in for the summer and bring out those windbreakers and fall colors.

Layer 1: The skimpies. This first layer is what you were when temperatures are their hottest. These are your barely there bikinis and short shorts to show off your assets. This is the typical summer outfit that you have been wearing for the past three months. There seems to me more skin than clothes.

Layer 2: ItÂ’s getting a little chilly.
The arms and shoulders will likely be the first areas hit by the plummeting temps. You might get some goose bumps and you will begin to feel that chill in the air. Now itÂ’s time to break out that T-shirt and cover up your exposed areas. That means no more midriff and a severe drop in cleavage. DonÂ’t worry, T-shirts are forming enough to show some curves and still be sexy.

Layer 3: Full on granny attire.
The temps are heading towards the lower ’70s, maybe even the ’60s, and the T-shirt just isnÂ’t cutting it anymore. Break out the sweatpants or jeans and the hoodie and prepare for beautiful night by the campfire. There are enough styles and designs of hoodies that they can be fashionable, but still keep you warm. Hoodies can also be replaced by light jackets such as denim, which are always sexy in my opinion. The jeans can be of any style, but they wonÂ’t provide the warmth of a good pair of sweatpants, but a hoodie and sweatpants is about as sexy as a pocket protector.

The good news is we have a few more months of temperate climates before Old Man Winter decides to wreck the party with 20 inches of snow and a car that refuses to start.

I love layering because its like wearing all of my favorite things at once. Plus it also gives me time to purchase the right coat when the temperature drops even more.
