Maxi Skirts and High-Waist Pants: Explore New Proportions

This summer, I’Â’ve noticed a lot of women playing with clothing proportions. This feels very fresh to me right now. Sometimes I just get sick of throwing on hot weather wear, like just a  dress, and want to do something to change up my look. Using your existing clothes to play with proportions can make your wardrobe feel entirely new, even if youÂ’’re feeling maxed out on what to wear.

Though there are different ways to use proportions during the winter, summer is much more challenging because of the heat. But donÂ’t let the heat stop you! There are plenty of ways to do this even in the summertime. Here are three ideas for how to play with your clothingÂ’s proportions right now:

1. Get in on the high-waisted pant trend. These flowy pants are all the rage right now, and because they are typically made of lighter fabrics, they can most definitely be worn in the summer. Because these types of pants go up higher on your body and thus cover more of it, I think it looks cool to pair it with a shorter top. Additionally, a shorter top will help keep you cool! You might try pairing your high-waist pants with a fun T-shirt style crop top or a classic tube top. Just make sure you add a belt to the top of your pants to emphasize your waist and keep your figure looking good. This look is fun right now because of the play of the long pants against the short top.

2. Similarly, try playing with proportions when you try out this summerÂ’s stylish maxi skirt. Maxi skirts have become popular, I think in part, due to their immediate ability to use proportions. There is something absolutely stunning about seeing a woman wear a floor length skirt on a regular day. So draw attention to the skirtÂ’s length by again pairing it with a shorter top. I think a maxi-skirt looks especially good with a crop top. Or you might try wearing a top that doesn’Â’t expose your stomach, but adding a cropped jacket on top to again play with the difference between long skirt and short top.

3. In addition to maxi skirts becoming trendy this summer, flow-y mid-thigh length high-waist skirts have become popular
. I think it looks relaxed and summer appropriate to wear these flow-y skirts with equally relaxed tops. You might try adding a loose tank on top, or if you’Â’re feeling more daring, then try wearing a looser button down on top.

How do you play with proportions in the summer?

About time! Hight waist has been slowing coming into the forefront again trailing behind the low waist. Now I wear clothes again happily :)

I think that the maxi woman’s skirt can look great even if it is warm out side, but with a cool top you can make it work.

So excited about high-waist pants and maxi skirts because 1) I hate sitting down or bending over to pick stuff on in “low-rise” 2) they just make your legs appear longer and slimmer.
