Chic Styles for Your Summer Tee

ItÂ’s August, and it is hot outside! When a day is especially warm, I struggle to wear anything that might prevent me from keeping cool. Which is why it becomes all too easy for me to just throw on a t-shirt with a pair of shorts and go about my day, doing anything to forget the heat.

In truth, however, IÂ’m not usually a t-shirt kind of girl. Though I find them a necessity for working out or sleeping, in general I try to avoid a t-shirt because I think it looks too informal and thrown together. Especially because IÂ’m unwilling to invest in any pricier tees, I tend to only buy cheapies that start to show their wear after a single wash.

But right now, IÂ’m all about the t-shirts. Their ease and lightweight feel have made them extremely desirable to me this summer. And though itÂ’s tempting to just throw one on and be on your way, you can tweak a t-shirt style to make it extra fashionable while still keeping cool this summer. Here are my top tips for styling a t-shirt this summer:

1. Add a summer scarf on top. In stores recently IÂ’ve even seen t-shirts that come with an attached scarf to wear this summer. But you donÂ’t need to spring for that item, just wear a breezy, fun-colored scarf over a basic tee for a sweet summer look. I think a leopard print scarf over a t-shirt looks especially hot right now.
2. Pair your t-shirt with more formal shorts. Though denim shorts have a time and a place, revamp your t-shirtÂ’s style by wearing it with shorts made of a nicer material or fun print. Brocade shorts can look very chic with a t-shirt, but if you just canÂ’t give up the denim, go for a pair of printed denim shorts. This summer IÂ’ve seen floral prints and animal prints on denim, so go for whatever your heart desires!
3. Add a vest on top. An embellished vest is the perfect thing to wear over a basic tee because it adds interest to your look, while still remaining just as comfortable and light. Try a vest with studs or metallic finishes
4. Splatter your t-shirt! A fun weekend project, use some fabric paints to make a splatter design on your tee. Splatter paint looks edgy but is very wearable and will spice up even a simple look of a t-shirt and jeans.
