Are Maxi Dresses Attractive?

Maxi dresses have been popular for the past few years, but lately I feel like IÂ’ve been seeing them absolutely everywhere! IÂ’ve seen everything from a woman walking her dog in a maxi Maxi Dressdress to a woman out at a bar last weekend wearing one. Why is this? Though I like the idea of maxi dresses in theory, I think most times in practice they just donÂ’t work. I often find them to be overly formal for most situations, even if theyÂ’re made of simple cotton or a similar fabric.

I also think they are particularly difficult to wear. If youÂ’re short, the long dress can overwhelm your frame. But even if you find one that fits, it may not end up being all that flattering; itÂ’s challenging to find a maxi that flatters your figure and doesnÂ’t make you look pregnant.

But there are some avid maxi dress fans out there, who want to wear this, I will admit, pretty cool new look. There are ways you can style a maxi as well as key things to look for when you pick a maxi that will help you to look your best in this difficult-to-get-right style. Here are my tips for rocking a maxi dress this summer:

Maxis are the most challenging to wear when youÂ’re petite, so look for a maxi thatÂ’s cut more closely to the body to avoid looking like youÂ’re wearing a blanket wrapped around your body. Also try to find a maxi with a v-neckline to help elongate your body.

Maxi dresses can also be complicated if youÂ’re plus-sized, so look for a maxi that compliments your frame with thicker straps. Also make sure to cinch your waist to make sure you show off your curves.

In general, I think maxi dresses look the best in a solid color. Part of why IÂ’ve been disliking the maxi dresses IÂ’ve seen recently is that they have all of these ridiculous patterns that make it look more like youÂ’re wearing bundled up fabric than an actual dress. A solid color is easier to wear with a wide variety of different accessories and something neutral colored never makes it seems like youÂ’re trying too hard.

Finally, make sure you pick the right shoes to wear with a maxi. As much as I love summer boots, pairing them with a maxi dress just looks wrong. Go for a classic flat or wedged sandal to keep the look summertime cool.

What do you think of maxi dresses? Would you wear one?
