Summer Shorts: How to Wear?

It’s time to think about what style of shorts looks the best on your body type. More important than trends (although trends are definitely fun!) is to find summer shorts that are truly flattering for your shape. It can be difficult to shop for shorts, but once you find a few good pairs they become the perfect thing to wear on a summer day. So here are some helpful tips:

If you are on the shorter side: look for either short shorts or shorts that hit in the middle of the thigh. Avoid knee-length Bermuda shorts, as they will squash your frame and make your legs look stumpy. Similarly, avoid shorts that are too baggy or shapeless, as they will overpower your small frame.

If you are pear shaped: try to find flattering Bermuda shorts. This knee-length style can be very slimming and will smooth out your curves. Avoid cargo pockets, as they will make you appear larger than you are.

If you are plus sized: don’t wear anything too large or baggy. Looser clothing will not hide your shape; you will only appear bigger. Look for basic, mid-thigh shorts that do not have a lot of embellishments of big pockets. If you do choose shorts with pockets, take them to a tailor to have them removed or carefully cut them out yourself. Avoid shorts with pleats and other treatments that make them look bigger. Stick to something in a solid color. Bermuda shorts can be very flattering on your frame, but again, if you’re also petite you should avoid picking these knee-length shorts. Keeping the cut to the mid-thigh helps to elongate your legs.

If you are boy shaped: if you’ve got the body, flaunt those short shorts. The super high shorts will make your legs look very long and will help add some femininity to your body. You might also want to try floatier shorts that hit add the mid-thigh to help add curves to your body. Try shorts with full back pockets and other embellishments to full out your frame and add interest.

Rules for everyone: 1) Ripped denim jeans do not ever look good. 2) Big front pockets can make even the thinnest girl look large. Get front pockets removed. 3) Never wear shorts that are so tight they squeeze your skin or show your underwear. Always stay classy when you dress casually in shorts.
