Prom Nails in a Pinch

We all want salon treatment for our nails, but sometimes it’s just not in the budget. You can spring for a $25-40 manicure and pair it with a $30-45 pedicure, but factor in the tip, the parking, the travel French Manicurecosts, and suddenly you’re out $100 or more for nails. While special occasions call for special prices, you can get some salon-ready nails and passionate prom looks from home. Here are some tips for saving some bucks this prom season, and still looking fabulous.

1. Have a mani/pedi sleepover with your friends the weekend before prom. It’s a great chance to catch up with your girlfriends, but also primp for the prom. Take turns painting each other’s nails with two or three coats of a nail polish that matches your prom dress. Then, all you will need is a quick color touch-up and clear coat sealer to be prom ready the next weekend.

2. Purchase some French manicure supplies: these are usually relatively inexpensive in comparison to the salon professional versions, and you’ll still look fabulous! Doing french manicures yourself are very, very difficult from scratch, so I recommend the fake tips if you’re looking for that look, but a little inexperienced.

3. Enlist a cousin, younger sister, or mom to help you get ready for the prom. Offer to paint their nails as well. Or maybe as a belated mother’s day gift, get you and your mom a certificate to the salon. It’s a great chance to reconnect with your mom or cousin, and be pampering yourself as well. They will enjoy the gesture: as will you!

Have fun getting ready, and remember to stay safe!
