Recently my attention has been turned to a fantastic website on the 10 Best Homemade Acne Treatments. I’ve been pretty impressed with some of these ideas, and I really wish that my teenage self had known about these fabulous
solutions to one of the biggest beauty issues for young high school girls.
The website recommends, first of all, just to take care of your body. Eat well, exercise, between eight and ten glasses of water a day, and keep your skin clean of impurities. It’s hardest to balance the dryness and oiliness of your skin, especially if you’re an active youngster and break a sweat.
Besides general health, the website recommends substituting more natural substances, like sugar or grated potato, for grainy scrubs or oil absorption pads that are expensive and chemically engineered.
While I’m totally for all-natural products, I’m taking it all with a grain of all-natural, organic salt (haha): I remember inviting a friend over to make carrot-honey masks and sugar-honey scrubs during a middle school sleepover, and it didn’t end well: the scrubs didn’t work and made our skin raw, and my mother was furious to have to extract globs of honeyed carrot from the sink. I trust that we can find products that balance natural ingredients with practicality, and success.
Some of my favorite organic beauty products to use are organic body sea salt scrubs, organic face moisturizers and organic acne kits, like Natural Results. I know I’m getting a tried-and-tested product with multi-faceted use and power for my face, while knowing I won’t have to extract it with a plunger from my sink. My mother would be proud.
What do you think of at-home beauty treatments? What are some of the best (or worst!) treatments you’ve tried?
