Hot Press Tees just launched a new website last week that “plans to blue the lines of fashion, pop culture, and guerrilla journalism like never before.” They ask shopper to “hijack the media” by wearing their designs and becoming a “Hot Mess,” aka what they informally call their members who promote their brand.
But is Hot Press Tees all that they claim to be? Not really, in my opinion. The online store does not really sell the ‘lifestyle’ they claim, but rather just sells some graphic tees that are sometimes funny, indie, or make plays on pop culture. The clothing this website is selling is definitely not anything new or out of the ordinary. For $20 a pop, the t-shirts are equally priced, if not more expensive, than their other competitors but don’t seem to offer anything better.

I did like the t-shirt designs; of the few available in their selection, I thought the drawings were pretty cool and would be fun to wear. Although I did like their t-shirts, the brand and website seemed to offer nothing more than other graphic t-shirt brand. Hot Press Tees claim to be offering the “first wearable blog,” but really it seems to me that they are just trying to sell consumers a fairly average product.
I did, however, particularly enjoy some of their t-shirts that make literary references. For example, on of their t-shirts includes the names of some of the famous poets and writers of the Beat Generation. The five names are overlayed with lines from Allen Ginsberg’s famous Beat poem, “ Howl.” This is definitely a t-shirt that stands out from the rest with its cool styling and interesting lettering.
But what do you think of graphic t-shirts? Would you wear a Hot Press Tee?
