High-Heeled Sneakers? Hit or Miss?

How do we feel about the new trend of high-heeled sneakers? We could throw high-heeled construction boots into this category as well. There is always an interest in taking the boyfriend’s clothes and making them sexy or feminine. We see this with the “boyfriend jeans”, the “boyfriend button-down”, the “boyfriend overcoat”, the “boyfriend sweater”–but can we even say that the high-heeled boot is in the same tradition? Because the others are about taking basically the boyfriend’s jeans/button-down/overcoat right off the boyfriend’s back and making it sexy just by wearing it and being a girl.

The high-heeled boot seems like it’s trying to achieve something different. It’s trying to marry the comfort, strength, and resilience of the boot or sneaker with the delicate tradition of the high-heel. “These Boots were made for Walking” takes on a whole new meaning. But are they really walkable? They are much heavier and clunkier than the normal heel, but with a much thicker and resilient heel for walking. Pair them with jeans and a black T for a night on the town? These shoes are statement pieces, but really also a little too clownish to pair with anything else vibrant. Do you really want your shoes to outshine the rest of your outfit? I’d say no.

What do you think? Sneaker heels or High-heeled boots, are they worth the hype?
