“Tights are not pants!” Yeah, well, a lot of people did not get the memo. But you know what, that’s okay. Because tights have a long tradition of being worn as pants by runners, and horse back riders, and dancers, etc — it gives an athletic and aerobic edge to your look. Is it a fashion faux pas to wear tights as pants today? Now, I’m not so sure.
But I will tell you there are many types of tights that certainly cannot/should not be worn as pants. Lace tights, for example. Or any nude or skin-toned ones–I’m sure you can imagine why! But let’s discuss my newest interest in fashion forward-thinking: the two-toned tights. Whether it be one-half sheer or multi-neon tones, the two-toned tight promises to lengthen and slim your leg. But what do we actually think in practice? How can you wear a two-toned tight and it be okay?
1. Keep the rest of your outfit muted if your going to go with the two-toned tights. If you’re going for half black and half sheer, probably the most demure combination, keep the rest of your outfit dark, never giving yourself more color than charcoal or emperor purple.
2. If you’re going with tight and bright, literally wear black for the rest of your outfit. Nothing else. You’ll thank me when you don’t get mistaken for a traffic light.
But what do you think, two-toned tights as pants? I think one-toned tights are enough, but maybe this time next year, I’ll be singing their praises. What’s the verdict?
