Maxi Dresses for Petite Fits

Being a petite woman, I find it hard to wear long dresses. The longer the hem length, the more I get swallowed into a sea of fabric. With the Maxi Dress trend, I have made it a mission to be able to wear this look successfully. This dress is the perfect casual outfit and also makes an elegant fashion statement. See some Maxi tips for the petites:

  1. Alterations: Don’t be afraid to purchase a long dress that fits well and flatters your skin tone and body shape. You can always alter it! It is always harder to find the perfect color combo and neckline shape that is flattering. Worry about the length next! That’s a quick fix. When making alterations, remember to get it hemmed up to the ankle. Wearing floor lengths are most appealing on taller ladies. At least this gives you a chance to showcase your shoes.
  2. Prints: The new prints for the season are ’70s- inspired, jungle abstracts and muted colors. If you opt for a print, remember to pick one that is not too big in size. Choosing the wrong print can make your overall look daunting and drown you with oversized shapes. It is best to pick a solid color which will lengthen your look or dainty florals and minimal shapes.
  3. Shoes: With the correct ankle length, you will also add focus on your shoes. Wear flat shoes with embellishing like studs and beading. Or wedge heels which will add more height. Wearing a heel or stiletto can make you look disproportionate. With all that fabric, you should balance your style with a chunky heel.
  4. Jewelry: Don’t overdo it with chunky accessories. You’ll end up looking top heavy. The bigger pieces are okay if you are wearing a solid color dress. But if you are wearing a pattern look you should stick to thin chains with a larger pendant, or chunky bracelets.
  5. Purse: To complement the length of your dress, try an over the shoulder handbag with a longer strap. Your purse should hit the top of your hip area. If you do go for a shorter strap purse, do not go for a mini sized purse (go for oversized) because it will cut off lines on your silhouette; making you look shorter.

This dress style is actually misunderstood and is flattering for women of most shapes. So wear your longer dresses with ease and comfort. When clothed in a draped fabric, it only adds flair and elegance to your lady-like look: even if you’re a little lady!
