The Trend:
In my opinion, scarves are one of the best affordable women’s accessories. I’m always sad when winter comes to an end, and I have to stuff my scarves into boxes in my cloest or under the bed. For the last couple of years, there’s been a trend to take winter’s most popular accessory through the spring and summer. Go ahead, and give this look a go! You’ll look sophisticated and chic – not weathered and out of place.
Work with the seasons for a look that makes you stand out.
Get the summer scarf look:
- Use a lighter fabric such as a silk. Try to avoid heavier fabrics such as wools or heavy knits because you’ll just feel sweaty and gross. Plus, you’ll look a little bit mismatched since your outfit isn’t in line with the overall theme of spring and summer.
- Select brighter colors with seasonal patterns and prints. Winter’s a time for blacks and forest greens, but with spring, you should feel free to whip out the yellows, pastels, pinks, and teals. Thinking about sporting animal print? Go for it!
- Use scarves to create a sexy silouhette. Drape the scarf over your shoulders as a coverup at the beach or around town.
- Be practical. Use a scarf as a head wrap as a hat-alternative to protect yourself from the sun. Cover your shoulders to protect yourself from burns while you are wearing a tank top.
- Avoid using your scarf to create a faux turtleneck or cowlneck. You’ll just feel bulky and warm.
- Don’t let the scarf become your only accessory. Wear your sunglasses and BIG earrings to complete your spring and summer look.
- Wear contrasting shades. If you’re wearing a black shirt, wear a white scarf. Contrasting colors between light and dark shades will help to illuminate your look.
- Wear textures. Interlocking lace patterns are chic, not silly.
- Wear with tee shirts, tanks, and jeans. Summer scarves will add a feminine flare to your basics.
