Lately, I’ve had a couple of bad hair days: not only is the weather changing, but so are my roots. Since I dye my hair every couple months, it becomes a hassle to upkeep with my busy schedule. My dark roots are starting to become more visible, and my tresses are putting me in a hairy
situation. I had to meet a couple of friends of mine in the hipster part of town. With the time constraint to style my hair, I had to do a wardrobe change (threw on a pair of leggings and a boyfriend fit tee), touch up my face, and top it off with a Burberry inspired plaid cap. It completely changed the look of my ensemble. The best quick fix is with a fashion miracle of a hat. Whenever I want to quickly elevate my look I make it a hat day! Check out my hat looks for different seasons.
Knitted Hats: This past season, I have been wearing knitted berets, which was winter’s major accessory for perfect and not-so-perfect hair. A bold color knit added a pop of excitement to my boring black or muted toned outfits. Everyone and their moms (literally, even my mama knitted some on her own!) have been wearing this style as a winter staple. I had worn this style back on my head, and pinned it to prevent it from falling off. This gave me a more ’70s look, while looking effortless!
Berets: The beret style is very Parisian and chic! Try this hat style in black (easy to match), or a neutral tone to keep you looking polished. Some styles can be found embellished with floral details or brooches. This romantic look can dress up a casual outfit easily. Or when accessorized properly, it can make you look oh-so-feminine…ooo la la!
Caps: This is one of my favorite styles for the season. Since it is inspired by the old English look, I keep it looking modern by accessorizing with trendy pieces. Few caps are hard to find on the streets, but surprisingly, they are available in a variety of fabrics and materials. Keep in mind the pattern, print, or texture of the cap when worn. You want to complement your hat style accordingly with your outfit. When worn right, this mod look can be very stylish.
Brimmed Hats: This hat style will be a classic in my book. Although very few are worn on the streets, the brimmed hat is ultra posh. When worn with flowy dresses or blouses, the brimmed hat style adds a feminine flair. Wider brimmed hats are better for the warmer season. Keep in mind the straw brimmed hats for the summer look. This hat style is a classic touch and is most flattering for most women–but less are daring enough to wear!
Try wearing your favorite hat style a bit sideways or far backwards (pinned to keep from falling) over your crown, making it look effortless. Keep in mind your unique style, and see what type of hat style is most flattering for your wardrobe. Designer collections by Donna Karan, Chanel, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, and others have been styling with hats for the season. Expand your wardrobe options by simply adding a hat, and enjoy your hat day!
Caps with no embellishments create an image of a modern independent girl while the ones decorated with bursts of feathers and bejeweled details create a purely feminine look.
