Lesson 3: Salon Quality Hair Products, Drugstore Prices

Last night, I caved and had my hair done with a new stylist at a salon. The last time I went to a salon was in November 2008, and I’ve been going to beauty schools ever since. In general, I think that beauty schools do a great job, but I have been itching to pamper myself with an amazing cut with a master stylist. Yes, the $60 haircut was money well spent. The stylist, Rudy, genuinely surprised me with his talent. I’ve had my range of $10 to $90 haircuts, and Rudy is definitely the best that I’ve found in the Southern California area.

But I digress. I love salon quality hair products. If I could justify the expense, I could easily spend hundreds of dollars on my hair care. Unfortunately, I can’t justify the expense, and I’d rather spend the money on clothes and going out.

I’ve always wondered whether it’s possible to find salon quality at a drugstore. I’ve asked stylists who have all responded that the quality differences relate to the alcohol content in the product. According to this video from Guide to Beauty Schools, salon quality hair care is possible with drug store products. Just watch and see for yourself…
