Style Review: Reinvent Your Vintage

The Look:

In an interview with Street Spotted, Anna shared that she’s been building her wardrobe with her grandmother’s friend’s hand-me-downs. Assuming that Anna’s grandmother’s friend is now 73, we can conclude that she she has had seven decades of unique and distinct styles. Nowadays, it seems like vintage is the trend with designers and cool vintage lookretailers creating new twists on the styles of the ’40s, ’50s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. Fashion’s new decade, 2010, is an era of mixing, matching, clashing, complementing, and reinventing.

As a child of the ’90s, I’ve only had two decades to build my wardrobe. I can’t even imagine what a mix of seven decades of style would look like. Anna’s a lucky girl.

Make It Yours:

Check out how Anna mixes patterns, colors, and motifs with this outfit. She wears a feminine-chic floral dress that she mixes with boho, vintage, and combat-inspired motifs. She rocks the combat boots (similar: Dr. Marten 1942 boots) with her military surplus coat (similar: long military coat at Smarter). The vintage handbag and boho scarf soften Anna’s edgy look, creating a tough yet down to earth feel.

In Anna’s look, I see inspiration from the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. With her sheer black tights, she brings it all back to 2010.

How many decades will you reinvent?
