Daily Skin Regimen: Virtuous Skin Reality

It is a daily ritual for us all, a time to sanitize and refresh our faces. We prep our morning faces to help start our day. We also clean our canvas of life’s expressions at the day’s end. Our skin regimen is something that we continue to create over time and with age. It is important that we cleanse our faces depending on our skin’s condition.

A customized skincare regimen should be for the virtual skinfollowing different types of skin: oily, dry, and normal/combination. There are affordable skincare products available with the same benefits as higher priced labels. Raise a brow or two, and ready below on what to look for with skin products:

Oily : Start with a deep foam cleanser and wash face thoroughly. Use a toner to wipe away excess dirt/makeup, and also close up pores making them smaller. Finish off with an oil-free lightweight moisturizer to keep skin from becoming greasy. Skin Tip: One adolescent day, my beautiful mother had showed me a beauty-911 tip by taking me to the bathroom as a teen. To my surprise, she grabbed a toilet seat cover (I know it sounds kinda weird, but it is untouched paper for goodness sake) from the receptacle. She used it as a blotting paper: genius right?  When out in public or a social setting, use the little girl’s room to freshen your face. Pressing the paper on your face will absorb all the oils off your skin.

Dry: Use a cream cleanser to wash your face, and use a facial scrub to exfoliate the dead skin layers. Tone your skin with an alcohol-free toner, so it does not take away remaining skin moisture. Moisturize with a night and/or day cream, smoothing an even layer over the face. Skin Tip: My favorite cousin told me that in order to determine if your moisturizer is right for you and your dry skin, put a little of the lotion in the middle of your palm. If it easily drips off of your palm, the consistency is not dense enough to hydrate your skin (consider a thicker texture).

Normal/Combination:  Using a regular cleanser to wash off dirt and makeup, close up pores with a toner especially in the T-zone area (where it tends to get oily). Top off your face with a lotion type moisturizer instead of cream based. Skin Tip: studies show that about 70% of women have normal to combination skin. Using a facial scrub or mask on a weekly basis, will help maintain the moisture and balance of your skin layers. So take the time to pamper yourself!

And don’t forget to use sunscreen!

  1. I hate using sunscreen… I know it’s a must but my face just feels icky and hot. :(
