Foundation of Youth: Skin Care Tips

Every time I look in my magnified mirror, I get a clear sense of reality: growing old. My skin is not as supple as it was when I was younger, and my laugh lines have turned into antique smiles! When I scrutinize my wrinkles, I get frustrated: causing frown lines. Ugh! Wearing too much or too little makeup is a no no, but applying just enough cosmetics on your face will keep you looking flawless. But how much foundation is enough? We all have imperfections that we like to hide. After doing some research, I learned how to use foundation to embrace a youthful look.

Use a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer. The sheer foundation is less coverage (which trouble zones can easily be covered by a concealer), making you look more natural. Or, by using a tinted moisturizer with an SPF, you’ll have  hydrated skin with a fresh look. I suggest using a tinted moisturizer during the day when we need protection from harmful UV rays.

Sheer foundation is best for evenings. When we go out we require more makeup or seasonal colors on our face. With all over coverage, the sheer foundation sets a breathable canvas along our skin and preps it for the highlights foundationand bronzers throughout the night.

If foundation is a must, it is wise to use warmer shades that are 1-2 shades darker than your regular foundation colors. By using darker hues we create less emphasis on our lines and wrinkles. By choosing a foundation with luminescent particles (also called light reflective foundations), you can keep skin illuminated (taking attention off lines and focusing on the light that reflects on the skin…perfect for photo sessions).

Other options include mineral based powders and foundations. The loose grains are a little messy, but the sheer coverage is more light and airy. Using a mineral based  cosmetic is good for the skin and for the environment.

Research foundations to see which ones works best on your skin.
