Here’s one you won’t find at the mall. Imperial Majesty (aka “No.1″) sells for a whopping $215,000 a bottle. That’s how much my house cost! Don’t worry though–there’s a much more affordable perfume spray version that’s only $865. Pocket change! (yeah right!)
So why on earth is it so expensive?! Clive Christian, a British designer-turned-perfumer, poured 16.9 ounces of “No. 1″ into a Baccarat crystal bottle and stuck a five-carat diamond into the 18-carat gold collar. The fragrance on it own is about $2,500 an ounce.
Recently the folks over at Vogue got a chance to sniff it and what did they think? “It smelledÂ…nice. No, we havenÂ’t fully experienced its “growth period” yet—the fact that itÂ’s comprised of pure, undiluted oils like rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, and ancient Indian sandalwood means that it evolves very intricately on your skin—but, so far, itÂ’sÂ…nice. The experience, on the other hand, was indeed very grand, seeing as how we got to sniff No. 1 in the presence of the Duchess of York.”
So, don’t feel like you’re missing out on much. My Vera Wang smells “nice” too, and for much MUCH less money.
