Toothpaste: Not Just for Teeth!

Pimples are no fun. I thought that zits were for teenagers but I get them more often now as an adult than I did when I was a gawky teen! I have one near my left eyebrow that absolutely refuses to leave. I’ve tried several creams but it won’t budge. A friend suggested that I dab toothpaste on it before bed and I thought they were joking until I Googled it and low and behold–people really do put toothpaste on their pimples! Have you tried this? Does it work? Here are the tips I found. I think tonight my Colgate might end up on more than just my toothbrush!

Wash your face. As with any acne medicine, or treatment, you will need to make sure your face is clear of any makeup or any other product before you apply the toothpaste.

Identify your problem area and the spot you want to tackle. You donÂ’t want to put toothpaste all over your face. Locate the problem pimple(s).

Choose your toothpaste. Most any brand will work but normal, white paste runs less of a risk of irritating your skin whereas pastes containing whitening and fluoride might aggravate your skin.

Put on gloves or grab a facial sponge. Pimples are generally brought on by oily skin and dirt, so you wonÂ’t want to risk dirtying up your problem area (or your toothpaste) by applying the paste with bare hands that may not be clean.

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to your glove or sponge, depending on how big the pimple is, and gently cover the skin spot, as well as a small ring around it, with a thin layer of the paste.

Let the toothpaste dry. Leave the toothpaste solution on the pimple for several minutes or hours or overnight. (read more)

I believe it! Did you know that toothpaste can also reduce swelling and bruising? I used it all the time on my kids when they were little. Those little bumps on the head can actually get soothed by the toothpaste. And, no more sitting there with a freezing cold ice pack on your head or other body part. Little kids don’t have the time or patience for that. Neither do I. I have tried the gel kind but it doesn’t work. It has to be the paste kind.

  2. i heard this makes your pimples dark and leaves marks on your face… I never tried it but some people are talking about it.

Toothpaste is also great for silver too. A friend taught me this, she was a costume designer and I do hair, I thought I ruined a silver bracelet with hair color, she just took a little toothpaste and rubbed it around with a soft cloth and it was gone, like magic!
