Pur-Perfection Mineral Starter Kit
Okay girls this is straight up my humble beauty bloggin’ opinion – BUT -Â I think Pur Minerals makeup is way better than Bare Minerals.
I did not get paid or anything to say it either. I actually did a post about Bare Minerals before (see: Best Mineral Make-up? Hits & Misses, Does it work?) And you can see from the past that even then I had a few reservations about their products.
Although I will say this from the start I immediately like the light feel and natural concept of “mineral” makeup in general. Much, much better for me than heavy foundations and sticks.
I just did NOT like how messy it is, and to be honest the color jut didn’t really match up with my porcelain complexion very well. The “bronzing” tan powder included in Bare Minerals is way too dark and orangey! Made me look like an oompa-loompa!
Luckily my friend Nalini told me about Pur Minerals and I love it!Â
It’s pressed so it’s not messy and does not leave a trail of powdery tears along my night stand, on the inside of my makeup bag, etc. Plus I always felt like so much of the mineral makeup is wasted whenever I see it sprinkled all over my bathroom counter and clothes.

4-in-1 Pressed Powder - $24.50
The pressed powder still offers that light, natural coverage PLUS they offer way more colors to match every skin type! From the really light (me – Porcelain) to the really tan/dark (maybe you?).
And the set includes:
Mineral Glow – Adds a touch of sun, not orange or too dark! Thank god.
Universal Marble Powder in Pink – Suppose to add a rosy glow of pink. It’s so light and natural I kinda don’t even notice. Which I personally think is a good thing. The mineral veil in other brands if applied incorrectly makes one look uber shiny and oily. This is matte and subtle.

Chisel Makeup Brush – $22.00
Hands down one of my favorite features of Pur Minerals kit was the brush! It was compact (fits in my small makeup bag) yet condensed enough so I can apply the pressed powder to trouble zones (under my eyes). Plus it was cute, I like the lucite handle.
Anyhow so that’s that, I honestly use the stuff every day now. I haven’t broken out and I heart the stuff. I figured I’d share.
If you are a fan of mineral makeup I really suggest you give it a shot. The best place to start is with the Pur Perfection starter Kit which includes all that stuff above and only costs $35 dollars!
It would cost a lot more if you bought all the stuff individually. I wonder why they do that? If you do try it and love it or don’t like it – let me know. I give it 4 stars. Ha! – MichelleÂ

You have got to be kidding. I have used bare essentiuls for years. A few months ago I tried Pur Minerals, .What a joke. You can have mine. It is junk.

Really, you hate it that much!? Be more descriptive, what did you not like about it?
I genuinely like it better, for all the reason I listed in the post so I am honestly curious what you hate about it.
Also, sure if you are just going to throw it away send it over, I can donate it to a woman’s abuse shelter or something.
Thanks,
Michelle
ohhhhhhh
I just started using Purminerals makeup & love it. A cosmotologist showed me how to use it. First using a small soft brush to cover your impurfections with the pressed powder. Then cover the pressed powder with all over circullar motion. It covers a multitude of imperfections and isn’t messy to carry.
looks niceee! needs suggestion for VD gifts! i’m digging this look good for less now. any other suggestion?! irie, sally
I’ll have to try them. I actually use NYC brand of minerals makeup and it works fine for me i think it’s a good price too. I think some makeup is way over priced i mean really it’s all the same ingrediants.
Although i have some Elizabeth Arden and i do love it. It’s extremely expensive. I guess u get a better quality.
Michelle- The first thing I didn’t like about Pur Minerals is that is like little rocks. It goes on glumpy and thick. It is very porous and looks totally fake. Do not worry you don’t need to give it away, I have already thrown it away.
Hi Cowbelleru!
Thanks for your feedback and honesty! Ya my friend prefers Bare Minerals too, but I think she has different reasons.
No matter what It’s nice to have beauty options for different types of girls right? lol…
Thanks for reading!
Michelle
Excellent review, but I prefer bareMinerals as well.
Hey its great to know about pur minerals. I never tried it. I’ve tried many beauty products but never got a satisfaction as they work well as a sense of makeup but rises many skin problems such as pimples, itching. I was searching for a product that results as a good make-up as well as would be safe(either it is not nourishing but never results for any side-effect). Someone suggest me to try organic natural cosmetics. Firstly I am doubting about it But tried it as they are free from all impurities such as chemicals, synthetic ingredients and are formulated from natural ingredients. I tried it and have to say it also works well.
although I have only this product for a few days, I have to say I really like it. I tried the bare minerals kit from Sephora, and I didn’t like the fact that it leaves a yellow cast to your skin. I hated the loose powder concept and the fact that you have to put on like 3 different products. Pur minerals is perfect for me. The color matches much better and it’s just one product and it’s not messy. It’s a keeper for me.
I tried Bare Minerals and it was messy and made my skin look ashy…and yes I used the closest color to my skintone that they applied to my face at Ulta. As a black woman who considers herself to have a medium black skintone I dont feel like Bare Minerals has enough variety that actually matches a diverse group of womens’ complexions. So, I decided to try Pur Minerals and I love it. Its so quick because its four in one and you don’t have to put the 5 things that Bareminerals recommend that you put on while doing your make up. It covers up all of the discoloration on your face, it doesn’t look fake to me ( I hate makeup that looks heavy…so I’m glad its not like that it just covers everything up), and I can just put it in my purse and go. I’ve told all of my friends about it! I would just say its a good idea to try it, you might be surprised, I was!
I like Pur Minerals much, much better than Bare Minerals foundation because Bare Minerals dried my skin out quite a bit and Pur Minerals doesn’t dry it out at all. I also think Pur Minerals gives much better coverage.
I *love love love* the Pur Minerals line. I was apprehensive about mineral make-up and my sis showed me her multi-step Bare Minerals stuff, which looks really good on her. However, she tried to put a bit on me and it looked very artificial and felt heavy on my face (not to mention way too dark) even though we have similar complexions. When I spoke with the cosmetician, she showed me Pur Minerals and I gave it a go. I love how easy the 4-in-1 goes on, and it looks and feels natural. The bronzer isn’t heavy and dark like the one from Bare Minerals, so make-up novices don’t have to worry about over-bronzing.
I like the stuff so much that I’m going to pick up a second shade of 4-in-1 for the summer months (when I plan to tan a bit). The starter kit is also super affordable…awesome stuff, IMHO.
Pur Minerals has got to be the most amazing cosmetic line EVER!!! I have tried a variety of mineral makeups in the past and thought they were ‘great’ untill I tried Pur MInerals. I was surprised at how perfectly it matched my skin colour . It looks so natural and still covers any imperfections! Another great thing about it is that I dont even feel like im wearing any makeup at all!! I have recommended this makeup to so many people already. I love it and will probably never try another makeup again!!!
bare minerals seems to have a bit more sheen than pur minerals does. I really dont like that shiny look to my face. The mineral veil didn’t help. Pur minerals seems to be a bit more matte in texture. bare minerals also clumps around the forehead area at the end of my work day. Anyways, i’ve made the switch to pur minerals!
Pur Minerals won me over! Not only have I used Clinique for the past 20 years, but I worked for the company as well. I first saw Bare Minerals on a late night infomercial and that made me start my research. I looked at more websites and blogs than I care to admit to and in the end I decided to purchase Pur Minerals. I think that not only do they offer a great product, but they always have special offers. I even received some great deals for registering on their website and the offers come frequently: including free shipping, free product and kits at reduced prices. I LOVE Pur Minerals so much that there is not a trace of a Clinique product left in my make up collection. And that says a lot since I have used it since I was 18. Try it you won’t be disappointed.
I use to use Bare Minerals and loved it for a while but then stop really liking how it looked on me….i felt like you could really see the makeup. About a month or 2 ago I started using Sifted Blur and Forgive by Darac because it promised to look very natural, which it does and i am really enjoying it! Im hearing a lot of good reviews about Pur Minerals so i think im going to give it a shot and compare it to my Darac products.
Is there any way to “set” Pur Minerals so it is more water resistant?
I love pur minerals the best make-up and it’s all in one step,4 in 1 awesome I get compliments all the time about how my skin looks so good and the gloss well enough said.
I also LOVE PUR MINERALS!!! I’ve been using it for 9 years now and I swear by it. It is the only make up that keeps my skin clear of break outs. I get compliments on my skin all the time, but the truth is I have awful skin. Pur minerals just gives my skin a natural flawless look and I will definitely stick to it.
I’ve also tried bare minerals, and I don’t think the coverage is all that great and it does not look natural. I also did not like the all over shimmer or the extra use of concealers.
I used Bare Minerals (BM) for a long time and compared to many other mineral makeups it was the best. Until I found Pur Minerals. I love the fact the the compacts are compressed. It provides much better coverage than BM. I don’t know about anyone else but by mid day my face would get oily and shiny with BM and I would sometimes break out as a result. I found myself carrying it with me since I would have to reapply often and my makeupbag and clothes would get the specks of powder all over. I won’t be going back to BM. I have heard that Jane Iredale is good and even had a makeup artist apply for me but honestly it didn’t look better than PUR Minerals and is significantly more expensive. The clear winner for me as of right now is PUR Minerals.
I started out using Mineral Basics, and then switched to Bare Minerals for a couple of years because I could get it in stores rather than purchasing online. I was never thrilled with the product as it made me look tired and drab and eventually went back to regular liquid foundation (cheap, and didn’t make me look deathly). I remembered how much I loved Mineral Basics, so I went online recently only to find they went out of business! Oh what a sad day.
But then I read how great the reviews were on Purminerals, so I picked some up yesterday and I LOVE it. It feels a little heavy, but I think I’m putting too much on. One thing I’ve noticed with mineral makeup is that you have to let it “set” before you’ll really notice how much it actually covers, instead of just applying a ton of product at the start.
Plus, its soooo much cleaner than loose powder, which is great for on the go application.
i used Bare Minerals although it covered great and looked beautiful i didn’t like how the containers were. I think I spilled more than i got to use (waste of my money n the product) and I also found that it is not so true it is so pure u could sleep in it as advertised. (not on purpose) I fell asleep with it on and it broke me out badly. it left my skin irritated/itchy and broken out. i have yet to try the pur minerals line, though have been thinking about it. have had too many bad experiences not made up my mind yet to trust it.
I LOVE PurMinerals !!! I’ve always wanted to try Bare Minerals, too, because I discovered the two brands about the same time. However, I have been so pleased with PurMinerals that I do not feel the need to try Bare Minerals. Also, I like the convenience of PurMinerals’ compact. Throughout my life, I’ve owned only two loose powders, one was Prescriptives and the other is Shiseido, which I’m still using. I HATE the shaker containers of loose powders. I’ve always purchased ONLY pressed powders. Therefore, I don’t want to get into the habit of depending on a messy loose powder. My current exceptions is my Shiseido loose powder because I love the brand so much. I use it in conjunction with PurMinerals to set the mineral foundation as an extra step.
Also: to Cowbelleru: You don’t have to be nasty/rude just because you don’t like PurMinerals….. Michelle, you are a good sport for not reacting negatively to Cow’s sarcasm. Great blog!
Ive tried both as well and preferred PUR. Bare didn’t match my peachy skin tone as well. I have combination skin and felt like it ran in my oily spots and was cakey in my dry spots. Also it didn’t conceal as much as I hoped. And loose powders are messy! This wouldn’t bother me if I thought it worked as well as shown. Pur I use when I’m in a rush and don’t feel like applying liquid foundation. The coverage is better and it feels lighter. I do feel like if add too much it gets cakey. Its also good for touch-ups since its a pressed powder. I think in general for dry/combination skin, mineral make-up is a no no. I like Bare Minerals line of lotions and eye creams though.
Rattling nice design and superb written content , practically nothing else we want : D.
I just bought this make up on Sunday, tried it yesterday and I didn’t really like that it made my face oily/shiny. I love the “full coverage” look and lightweight feeling. But I don’t think it is going to work for me, the only reason I changed to this powder is because I have been tanning and I am darker now, I needed a new makeup. I used to use SMASHBOX HALO HYDRATING POWDER and I honestly love it!!! but even the darkest shade is a little light for me since I have been tanning.
I’ve tried countless mineral makeup brands, and Purminerals porcelain is the only one that has been a perfect color match. It melts right into my skin. It’s also the only one that has ever really made my skin look pretty. I love that it’s a mess-free compact. My only complaint is that the shea butter that holds the pressed powder together warms up and wreaks havoc with my oily skin by the end of the day. It would probably be perfect for dry skin, however. I’ve been searching for another makeup brand that looks the same but has better oil control with no luck. I may be going back to Purminerals.
I just made the switch to PUR from BARE today. I have been wearing BARE for three years and noticed that when I sweat at the gym or in the summer heat, my face is on FIRE and ITCHY! I never realized that I was having an allergic reaction to it. As the years have been going by, I have noticed that my pores are bigger and face is getting blotchy. Still, I was oblivious to the fact that I was allergic. Finally, the deramtologist told me. DUH!
Now, it’s going to be 103 degrees out today so I’m waiting to see if my face starts burning. If so, it’s going back. I’ll keep you posted.
