I have a very mixed stance on the Pixie cut. Part of me thinks that women only rock this look if they are too lazy to do the whole blow dry and prep work involved with longer looks. But now that I am older, the idea seems “oh so welcoming”. No fuss, no muss.

The very first time I even entertained the idea was when I saw Winona Ryder in Reality Bites. Super cute!

Despite the fact that she got hoodwinked into birthing the Anti-Christ, Mia Farrow’s hair was polished and sharp in Rosemary’s Baby…

Personally if I had Natalie Portman’s face, I could shave my head and still be 100x more attractive than 90% of the population…
So there are prime examples of the Pixie Cut working! But here comes my next bit, do you see the common thread amongst these examples?
They are all petite TINY ladies! ( Go ahead look back up and check it out, am I right or what!) I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, the name of the cut has “Pixie” in it for Pete’s sake.
Which begs the question – Can big people sport the Pixie without looking like they shrunk their head? Have you ever seen a full-figured person with a Pixie cut? I am sitting here right now, racking my brain trying to think of an example, and God help me I can’t picture one..
I am probably wrong. Can you guys think of examples where the Pixie cut rocks on a normal slash larger person?

I am a plus size and I totally rock the pixie cut! What’s working for me if that I am a confident person, I have a rather big round head with prominent round features (wide nose, glasses, big happy dimpled cheeks) and I have unreasonably thick almost black hair. I have had my hair at every length imaginable and above the ear works best cause I can show off my collection of earrings rather than hiding behind layers of crazy thick hair.
If you are thinking of pixie have them razor cut it and round the back out, for the love of god do not let them cut it down the middle so you can decide on your part when styling (that’s what happened to me at my last cut and I’m on my way to “fix” it cause my hair naturally goes down the center like that…awful)
Hey! I’ve been searching for info about the pixie hair and round faces for ages…
Thanks again
Look the thing about me is that I am in fact fat (and I don’t care if I’m called fat or full figured or anything) and I really like the pixie hair but not like let’s say skinhead, a lil bit longer but above the ears. I have a round face and on top of it I have rather big cheeks.. I ‘ve been planning to cut my hair (which used to be super long the I cut them right under the shoulders and it feels like I lost a part of myself) when I loose some weight…
But since I am like 5’4″ and about 190-200 pounds it will take a loooong time..
So if you can tell me if I can cut them now instead of waiting and/or suggest me any hairstyles I’d be glad
I’m 16 btw with a pretty nose eyes and mouth. Just those cheeks ughh…
I am a smaller person (who cares…) and I ran for Mrs. Michigan with super short hair…against my coaches wishes. I was told by a pageant mom that only black women could sport short hair on stage. I have been a hair designer for 18 years and I believe that anyone can wear anything and not according to cultural bias. The cut should, however; be designed to ones’ features. I also was in the Army and I am a singer. I ROQUE out the short hair, my hubby LOVES it and the people in the superficial pageant wrld can kiss my short….pixie! GET THE CUT!!!!!
I love how when “a male” wrote on here a while back he wasn’t even man enough to put a name. I think he should grow a pair before he refers to himself as a male.
See, the whole point of a pixie cut is the juxtaposition: feminine features against a masculine haircut. When a large girl tries to sport one, that juxtaposition doesn’t exist, because a lot of the traditionally feminine features are absent. Obesity obscures the feminine form, and a fat face distorts feminine facial features. Thus, when a pixie haircut is on a petite girl with feminine features, it works. When it’s on an obese woman, it just makes them look butch.
mia micheals the choreographer rocks the pixie cut
it’s about attitude
I want a pixie but I also want to keep it long. It’s approximately 6 inches below my shoulders.
Mum thinks I should keep it long and grow it out a bit more. Maybe around next Easter
I’m not skinny – I’m around 165lbs and very curvy. I’ve had pixie cuts on and off and personally, it doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks of my hair cut – I love them! My hair is crazy thick and when it’s long it can take me up to two hours to style. I have NO time in the morning, and I’m a mom of two little girls, so yeah – if I can make life a little easier by keeping my hair short and easy and feel pretty in the process, great. And I’m not rocking the pixie cut to attract anyone or turn any heads. It makes me feel good, and I probably dress even more feminine to make up for any slightly “butch” look that goes along with it.
I’m 5’10″ and about 140, is this too heavy?
Pixie cuts rock! I am size 8 – sometime 10, and in my forties. The pixie cut took 10 years off my look – the hanging hair around my face gone lifted my eyes immediately. It is fun as you can spike it, mess it , or wear sleek, or add some cute pins. The cut actually gives me more looks than the previous bob ‘n bangs. All features stand out with the cut, so in a way, less makeup. I either blast on a bold lip with little more, or go heavy on the eyes.
I’m 5’8″ and about 9.5 stone, and thinking of trying out a pixie cut. I have a roundish face while my jaw is quite defined (at the edges) and my cheekbones are the widest part of my face. I have large, almond shaped eyes and bowed lips, and I do wear a little bit of make-up most days – just a flick of mascara and a bit of lip gloss (sometimes subtle eyeliner). I’m also quite girly. Would I be able to pull off a pixie cut? If so, can anyone give me any advice or tips on how to make it look good? Thanks
I’m “plus” size and I totally rock the pixie! A SHORT short pixie at that! I’m 5’4 and 155, ten bs over the normal weight for my height. Honestly, I’ve seen waif-ish looking ladies with really long, narrow faces who don’t look so hot with it, and plus or curvy ladies with beautiful faces who make it incredible. I would pretty much recommend every girl to cut her hair off at some point. It’s very freeing. Just keep in mind that your face will really be the focus from now on. I also feel way more pulled together with my pixie.
Do it, do it!
Judi Dench – fab pixie cut on normal lady
oh “josh”. Josh my friend. You have much to learn. Since when is waifish/prepubescent girls bodies “feminine”? Obesity takes away the feminine form? REALLLY?
lolz
Feminine is not in the body. It’s in the face and the way a girl carries herself and what she wears, as well. I’m about 150 lbs, in the healthy weight range but def don’t have a waifish figure, and I love my pixie. I’ve seen girls with hips and booties the size of Brazil who it pull it off. What you need is a feminine face and good cheekbones… that’s basically it. Women need to stop worrying about whatever they dislike about their bodies (which are amazing to begin with) and play up their feminine features. Cut the hair.
So I’m a fairly large chic. I’m 5’10 and currently a size 18. I’m very proportional though, nearly a perfect hourglass and I have an oval face. I’ve always loved the pixie cuts and I think I might bold enough to try it, would it be a good or a bad idea? I ‘ve had short hair before but never about the ears.
I’m 5’11″ and currently a size 18 and have a short cut above the ears. I love it! I’m actually looking at the pics because I’m thinking about going more pixie with more layers. I’d say go for it!
I’m considering a pixie cut, but I’m not so sure that it would look good on me. I’m kinda chunky…
wish i could upload my style here, i get compliments galore on my cut, it’s a slightly longer version than a true pixie, but i have had the short short pixie too. i love it, and yes there is still styling involved just not as much as longer hair. I’m not a petite lady either, I’m not plus size but I’m 5’7 and 170 lbs. so there you go. I change up my style too depending on my mood. I throw it forward a lot, but sometimes i brush it side ways, or give it lift with some putty ( putty is my friend).
I am a bit overweight for my 5ft 2 height ( 145lbs).I have been ROCKING a short short pixie for the better part of the last decade.I love it and I ALWAYS get complimented on it by MEN AND WOMEN..I just turned 37 and no one could believe it since it makes me look younger.I did the long hair thing for awhile and it did NOTHING for my face except make me look 10 yrs older and 50lbs heavier.I feel my utmost prettiest and chic with my pixie. I think anyone can rock one as long as it is tailored for her.Men need to get over themselves and the whole infatuation with long hair =femininity.Being feminine is not about a hair length .I am a married mom of 1 and my husband LOVES my hair.
I am getting a pixie this weekend! I’m about 5’3″ and about 145. So, not terribly small(; But, not terribly obese either. And I think that if you want to do it…DO IT!(: It’s for you. Not for anybody else. Follow your bliss<3
