Eyelash Extensions – Are they worth it?

Eyelash Extensions - LashOutPro.com

Recently my cousin Charm asked me if I would be interested in going with her to what sounded like a tupperware party but instead of tupperware they were showing free trials of Eyelash Extensions! Well, naturally I said YES!

Hang on let me amend my former statement, no FREE trials per say, more like a demonstration and sales pitch women’s meeting. Nonetheless my curiosity was peaked and I was raptly attentive!

Here’s what I was able to gather:

It’s expensive! First time round of initial lashes is $300 bucks.

Told the lashes last for a month. ( I asked my friend who gets them done all the time how long they really last, she said about two plush weeks, if your super careful when washing your face and applying and removing make-up then 3 weeks. Regardless she is addicted and no longer gets her nails done but always gets her lashes touched up.)

They are light as a feather and feel completely natural, unlike wearing falsies.

Bottomline, the end result always looks fabulous and really does open the eye up and adds a lush natural beauty to the user. I mean are you surprised? For this price if it didn’t make you look fabulous, the trend would have been dead in the water.

Well on my blogger income there is no way I can afford the maintenance and up keep for these lashes but they look awesome and I would maybe consider saving my pennies and giving them a try for a super special occasion, like weddings or when I finally meet and seduce Brad Pitt! :)

I can’t remember off hand the name of the company my cousin’s friend works for but I did some googling and came up with these options:

Eyelash Extension – Lash Out Pros (picture above featured from their site)

Shavasana Eyelash Extensions – they offer training? Maybe you could learn how to do it on yourself and your friends…

Lavish Lashes – there offering a Special Promotion that will save you up to $380.00!

Here’s a video showing the process:

If any of you have tried Eyelash Extensions  and would like to comment please do! If you can save me $300 dollars I would love you forever. Or maybe it will be the best thing I ever try?

I’m not sure where you live, I live in WA (Lynnwood) and they do Eyelash extension at the nail Salon for $25. You pick out the lashes that you want. They have them there and they put them on for you. I have not tried it yet but hear it ‘s awesome. Also some other places that do it for you are MAC make up ($30 ) I think that is the price don’t qoute me and I heard Nordstroms does it too not sure of the price there at all….. Good Luck :-D

    Hi Nai,

    I live in California.

Oh I know what your talking about, that is about the average cost of having a makeup artist at your local salon or department store apply “fake eyelashes”. The price usually ranges on the quality of eyelashes you buy.

These are supposedly different. They are bonded to your eyes and are suppose to last for up to a month! And they are attached lash by lash to provide you a plush and natural outcome.

I haven’t tried it, but plan too. I’ll keep you posted. :)

    Thanks for reading,
    Michelle

i’ve been wearing eyelash extensions for more than a year now and they’re magic!! you look instantly glam in the morning. saves me a whole lot of time in doing eye make-up and i’ve kissed raccoon eyes goodbye.

a few things though… maintenance is a chore.. you’ve to learn to wash your face a certain so way so as to preserve them longer. You also have to check every so often if the lashes are still in place and not sticking out in weird directions.

If you are planning to get eyelash extensions I suggest you get the individual lashes and not the ones that are clumped in a bunch. Theyre easier to maintain and feels more natural.

    hope that helped!!

  4. I just had Shavasana lashes put on today. I’m very disappointed. I now have unnaturally long lashes but no added thickness. The long lashes are so far apart from each other, they just look silly. In fact, my lashes actually thinner now. I had her trim them, but I still had to trim them again myself when I got home. I wanted the outer corners to be long, but they all appeared the same length when she was done, so I trimmed the inner ones so there was more of a slant starting low from the inner eye getting longer toward the outer edge. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to curl my lashes or wear mascara anymore, but it’s looking like I’ll still have to. I didn’t get anything near what I’ve seen in all the before and after photos online. For the price, I don’t think it’s worth it at all. But I’m not sure I’m giving up just yet. I might try at least one or two other places and see if they can give me the look I was hoping for. I’ve hear Novalashes are good. Does anyone know anything about them?

To Carried Anne So sorry you had a bad lash experience! Your lash stylist should consult with you about what type of look you want and proceed from there. I have some clients that want long but aren’t as worried about fullness, but other clients want a slightly longer length but really want the fullness both are easily attainable. Trimming your lashes isn’t the answer because it creates a blunt tip rather than a tapered tip like your natural lash. I am a lash stylish as well as a lash client and I am often complimented on my “beautiful lashes”. The lash itself isn’t the determiner on how your lashes will look, it is the stylist. I’m in the San Diego area, if you are in the same area I’d love to show you a new lash experience!

Lash Extensions are the best beauty accesory since earrings?? Only better!! They brighten up your face, you look younger. These $30-$40 apps are not the way to go, Lash Extensions are pricey but you want quality product. Think of hair extensions, if you get the cheap hair it will look cheap and not stay on as it should. If you want to be free of mascara and have full long lashes get your wallet out, close your eyes and when they are done YOU will love them. Take care of them and enjoy looking and feeling HOT!!
Remember….YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!

  7. This was a great post! Loved the comment about Brad Pitt! ;-)
I have many clients that come in with eyelash extensions, and what’s more, I studied it for awhile. It was way too tedious a process for me, but I can attest, that when done properly, they look fabulous!
However, if you’d like some tips on how to care for your lashes now or until you can afford extensions, or to see alternatives and grow them yourself (for almost half the price), check out this post:

I just recently have become obsessed with eyelash extensions and happily forked out the cash to get them….best money ever spent!!!!! The lash extensionist used products by Novalash. The lashes are individually glued on with Novalash Platinum bond super-awesome glue. The lashes last about 3 to 4 weeks before I need a refill. Not at all like the low-end nail salons that glue on clumps of eyelashes to the skin of your eyelid with hair-extension glue….and they only last about 2 days and take casualties with them (your own lashes)! My lash extensions look natural and beautiful. I don’t really feel like there is anything on my lashes except when I’m washing them. I use the Novalash eye-makeup remover and conditioner pads to remove any eyeliner or makeup from my eyelashes, and it works really well at keeping my natural lashes and extensions conditioned. Overall, I love my lashes and would recommend to anyone that wants long, gorgeous lashes to splurg on a QUALITY set of lashes! Don’t go cheap with ANYTHING that goes around your eyes! I am not familiar with other brands of eyelash extension products but I do know that the Novalash brand is pure quality! They even make a “sensitive” eye glue! You just can’t beat that!!!!

  9. Mia says:

I think NovaLash is the best. I am a certified extensionist as well as an advanced. This is something that can change your whole look but just like with everything you have to make sure you go to someone that will show you their work. And if it sounds to good to be TRUE…….IT IS.
Email me I will send you a presentation of my work.

  11. Sonterra says:

I myself happen to luckily be blessed with naturally decent lashes. However, what girl in this world doesn’t want the lashes straight from the TV Mascara commercials!!

All girls know mascara can be tricky.. what kind should you use? Thick? Voluminous? Luxurious? Self building? Lions, tigers and bears, Oh My! After, clumps lumps and lots of smudging I decided to try artificial lashes. And with no luck dealing with pulling and sticky glue I was just about to call it quits.

That is until…. the salon I work at started to offer Novalash. Its an entirely different concept than the strip lashes sold at the mall makeup counters. NovaLash eyelash extensions are applied on a lash-by-lash basis for a totally natural look and can last up to 8 weeks! And the icing on the cake is if you want to keep the look, you can just get fills or touch ups ever few weeks. Also the price at my salon is WAY under the $300 you had to pay, and I must say.. look alot more natural and less spidery.

Of course after the mascara madness, and lash strips glue mess I was very hesitant to put anything on or near my eyes again. So I did a little research and found that a team of NovaLash physicians and scientists formulated the first formaldehyde-free, medical-grade lash extension adhesive (patent pending). Novalash adhesive is manufactured and delivered free of formaldehyde, unlike most of the leading brands of lash extension adhesives that were tested by the AEWCA and found to contain toxic and carcinogenic irritants such as formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde near my eye? No thanks! NovaLash is the ONLY lash extension product that is American made – Pharmaceutical grade, Physician-formulated and Made in the USA in accordance with FDA recommendations for formaldehyde content.

So there ya go girls, my own personal lash adventure! Hope this helps!

I am a new eyelash extensionist and having difficulty with the brand of glue I am using. It either dries too quickly or not fast enough. Any suggestions???

I am going to train with xtreme lash after a one on one training session gone horribly wrong with natural lash. i’ve now shelled out well over $4K to learn how to apply lash extensions, and all i want to do is be GOOD and proficient and render a great experience. i’m constantly reading about different lashes (anyone over hear of minkz?) and wonder what is the best eyelash glue. what is/who is nova lash you all make it read like it’s the best stuff around and that’s what i’m looking for. please advise. thank you so much. I just got mine done and I love it!
I live in Manila (in the Philippines) and it is a lot cheaper here (~20 USD), probably because labor and shop renting fee is a lot cheaper here.
I’m not sure what brand they use, but the lashes are glued on one by one, it took like a whole hour. My lashes now look really full and natrual. I highly recommend it. :D

  15. Hello,

i love eyelash extension (Wimpernverlängerung) and all my friends too in germany. It is more than a trend it ist more a feeling

  16. I would first like to say: Eyelash extensions are VERY much worth it. I’ve read the previous posts and I would like to clarify a few misconceptions. When determining how long the lashes will last, you must first consider the products your eyelash extensionist is using. I have heard of very misleading products, such as: The types of glue, lashes, and after-care products are being used. I STRONGLY recommend the Nova Lash kits/extension system. Their glue is patented and has been approved by the FDA as well as a very prestigious inspection team. The eyelashes have proven to last at least 3 weeks if cared for properly. Nova Lash does not forbid ANY types of activities while wearing their products. Please also note: These eyelashes are applied to the natural lashes and will fall out with the natural lashes. The natural eyelash has a life of 60 days and there are three different stages of a lashes, (as well as hair) which will determine the life expectancy of the lash. Nova Lash extensionist are trained to apply the false lashes to those lashes which have the longest lifetime expectancy. Therefore, check with your eye lash extensionist and verify what system she is using. If she is not using Nova Lash, go to the Nova Lash web site at: novalash.com and click on the find us tab. Then click on the Nova Lash professionals link. Here you can find a Nova Lash Professional in your area.

    Thank you.

I have been wearing Lash extensions since May, and I simply LOVE them, I’m hooked. I maintain my lashes with fill-ins every 2-3 weeks, and each time they appear fuller and fuller. I decided to join the latest beauty craze, and completed training with NovaLash. Ladies I’m available in the Irving, Texas area.

I’ve actually had my lashes done at a LashOUT! shop! They do such beautiful work! I would definitely recommend getting your lashes done at one of their shops if they are local to you. I’ve heard they can refer you to other reputable shops around the country too if your are not in their service area.

  19. meghanbeer says:

I am an eyelash extensionist, I have been wearing Novalash and using Novalash on my clients and I feel they have the best product! Their lashes are thicker for a fuller look and range in many lengths and thicknesses so the client has their needs met. I personally hasd them done on myself by different companies but loved how long Novalash lasted! Their glue is incredibly strong but safe and gentle on the eyes!

  20. Stephanie says:

i was wondering.. what is the common length that most people choose? i want legnth and thickness..but not overly dramatic.

  21. pinkmonkey says:

i got eyelash extensions 6 weeks ago, they were stunning but then after four weeks looked clumpy , half falling out and horrible. the glue would not dissolve using ANY of the professional glue dissolvers. basically they glue took like 50% of my natural lashes off 1 of my eyes. i wish i left my natual lashes alone, i only wish i had them now!

though, now i feel like i seriously need more to make up for those falling out! vicious circle………… bad.

  22. Ria says:

Pinkmonkey- I do eyelash extensions in NYC. It’s unfortunate- it sounds like you didn’t have a great application. Eyelash extensions should NEVER be clumpy. After 4 weeks they would def look thinner overall due to normal lash shedding but not clumpy. Clumpy lashes def leads to damage- which if it wasn’t repeated damage your lashes will go back to how they were before within 6-8 weeks.

There is also what I call “lash shrinking syndrome”, that’s when you get used to seeing yourself with long, lush lashes and when they shed and you see your lashes again they look shorter than before.

Don’t give up on lash extensions just yet. Done well they can have a profound effect on your beauty. Just be sure to find the BEST person in your area to do them :)

Stephanie- There shouldn’t be a common length- it should be individual to you and YOUR features. The best looking eyelash extensions should be balanced to make your eyes pop without overpowering. Remember: you can always “play” when it comes to your lash styling, you can start out more conservative in length and thickness and increase as you go alone. Be sure to chose a stylist that is flexible and not a one trick pony. Seek out the best and I promise you will never be able to be without them!

  23. Jasmine says:

My lashes are very thin and flimsy, it’s just I have little to no lashes and it has been hard to find eyelash extension experts who put them on correctly and have them last. My previous horror stories included lash extensions where the stylist would glue all my lashes together instead of individually and caused an infection, or the glue would sting my eyes for a week, or the placement of the lash looked unnatural where my friends asked me if I was wearing extensions. My friend just she had her eyelash extensions done by Mobile Lashes. Her lashes are full, and longer – yet still look very natural. Not one person has noticed they were fake! I had visited Mobile Lashes on Facebook, their before and after pictures look very natural. I really like to have beautiful lashes. Should I try the eyelash extensions again?

  24. Elen says:

Eyelash extensions are so totally worth it if you can afford it. However, if cost is an issue you can “fake” the extensions with products like Talika’s Eyelash Extender.

Jasmine – Sorry about the bad luck. Sounds like a bad deal in your case. That’s why you should find Certified Eyelash extension experts(they do exist).

In your case go with Mobile Lashes. I have heard good things, and if your friend can vouch for them than obviously it should work out.

  25. Sandra says:

I just got eyelash extensions done and so far, I love them. Can anyone tell me if wearing liquid eyeliner is ok? I usually wear Avon’s liquid eyeliner.

  26. envyderm says:

I heard that eye lashes extension cost about a $1000 /year but if you got that beautiful out come live the picture above,I don’t mine splurging.;)

  27. Karen says:

Love them. For me they are worh it. Expensive but I can’t live witout them.

  28. I think that eyelash extensions are absolutely worth it, so long as you are using quality lashes and glue. I would not suggest getting eyelash extensions if you are someone who picks and rubs your eyes a lot. If you are able to let them stay untouched for the 1st 24 hours, they will last a long time.

  29. Eyelashes have really improved in quality over the last 10 years. I get a lot of requests from clients for lash extensions. I’ll be taking a class soon so I can provide to clients.

  30. Christine says:

I take a day out of the month and do my own lash extensions. They last just as long, but it could take up to 3 hours to do. (I do my bottom lashes too with 8mm sized lashes, which are the smallest you can get.) I’m no expert, but my lashes come out fine. Although, most days, I wear false lashes over them, which are long, dramatic Red Cherry 101′s, Force of habit. I’m too cheap, I could never pay $300 for them. I bought all my own lash extending supplies on eBay (china) for about $20 (and it’d last you more than a lifetime.)

  31. Lucy says:

well im about to get eyelash extentions and the salon lady is charging me 150 dollars hopefully it comes out great. and hopefully they dont come out to be a disaster. do you guys think that is a fair price for eyelash extentions? she had said that she lower the price because of the economy problems and she is a proffesional though.

  32. Lindy says:

Eyelash extensions are amazing, I do them in Utah and charge $99 for a full set if anyone is interested. I am a cosmetologist and was certified to do eyelash extensions! All my clients love them! If you are debating about them, do it!

  33. jackie says:

I had them done just a week ago and love them! I live in the US but was traveling to Asia for work and had them done in Bangkok for around $30 USD. Many salon services are less expensive there due to the lower labor rates and cost of living, so I was so glad I had them done! They look very natural so far…similar to my actual lashes just now longer and fuller.

  34. Katherine says:

I really want thick eyelashes because my eyes looks more attractive and I feel so beautiful and gorgeous.I really love eyelash extensions. no more false eye lashes.. The price is worth it!

  35. Lina says:

They are very expensive but so beautiful. I need them.

  36. Kristin says:

Hey everyone! I am an experienced cosmetologist, and after a ton of research decided to spend the big bucks and go with extreme lashes. They are awesome and I am def hooked. This company compares to no other in the market. You do not want to mess with your eyes! They are worth every penny :)
