Top Hair Removal Products: The Sticky, Icky Stuff

Beauty Tips - Bikini Hair Removal Advice Well first of all, if my abdomen, hips, thighs and bikini area looked like this ladies I would consider just walking around in a thong! Yep, that’s right, it would just be me…in my white thong prancing around the office, going to church, hitting the supermaket.. Ha!

Well back to my pale blubbery reality. It’s warming up, we are in the midst of Spring and on the cusp of SUMMER! So… time to get the ol’ bikini region funderwear friendly.

I started shaving my zone sophomore year in high school, prior to that I use to let my garden grow wild and free. Well like every other novice the only advice I had to go on was my friends. Who told me to just use a regular shaving razor and soap. Ugh!

Beauty Tips - Bikini Hair Removal Advice

Horrible advice, this may work for some ladies but all it got me was razor burn and stubbies. Yeck! I guess my skin was super sensitive and I don’t know if it is just me but the hair would grow back within 2 days and be really short and harsh. I really didn’t like the outcome.

My solution was to start getting waxed at my local nail salon. Which in high school became an expensive and let’s face it semi-humiliating experience. At sixteen you are pretty self conscious of your stuff, when in hindsight it was probably the prettiest it will ever be, go figure. As it were I tried some home remedies;

Nads Hair Removal KitI tried Nad’s Hair removal kit thanks to the infomercial. Let me be the first to tell you that stuff is utterly bogus. Here is the lowdown:

  • It’s messy, it’s sticky, it sucks!
  • It doesn’t work and I nearly scalded myself when I applied the gel.
  • Plus when left unattended the stuff morphs into this crystallized science project.
  • Don’t get it!

I finally settled on Nair’s Bikini Cream and have been using it for years. What I like about it is it’s very easy to use, it leaves your area silky smooth and I swear through the years that the growth has dwindled. I have been trying to convince my best friend to use it instead of shaving, and on her last trip to Cancun she finally did and she loves it too. It’s just my personal recommendation. All you do is apply it to the desired growth, leave it on for about 5 minutes (recommended is three, I do five) and wipe hair off with a hand towel. Leaves your skin really smooth and stubble free, plus in my experience it does not grow back as quickly. Price – $5.95

Hmmm….I like Nad’s, but it is messy. how did you scald yourself, though? You don’t have to heat it.

  2. michelle says:

What I use to do was nuke it for like 10 seconds, it’s so sticky I felt it helped me spread it better over the…”surface area” ..

well some microwaves are stronger than others and it was HOT!!
(this is of course my fault) but it still didn’t pull the hair out well or work?!

Of that I am sure, it actually works for you??

    Thx, Michelle

  3. Curious says:

Hmm interesting post! I absolutely hate having to wax, and would never have the guts to wax myself for that matter. Does the bikini cream work for just a bikini job or can it do a brazilian?

  4. susan says:

does anybody like veet better than nair?

  5. Allison says:

I’m wondering the same thing Curious is.

I’m also wondering what you did while waiting the 5 minutes. I used this before and felt ssoooo silly. I didn’t want the Nair to spread around so I layed on the bed, butt naked just waiting…of course my bf walked in and was completely shocked, wondering what in the heck I was doing. When I told him he just laughed at me.

It worked, but I think I should have left it on longer, because it wasn’t ALL gone.

    To: Allison and Curious

Let me preface with you have me literally sitting here laughing out loud Allison! :)

Yes, I usually just kick it on my bed naked with the door LOCKED! It’s one of those moments when 3-5 minutes feels like forever.

As per your query about Brazilian it depends on your level of sensitivity. I use to be scared to get close to the “center” but threw the years if i pull the skin tight i can usually get everything. Use your best judgment, otherwise leave a lovely little hawk! ..

    Hope that helps.
    Michelle

Thanks for the comments guys, you rock!!

  7. Allison says:

I’m glad I could make you laugh, because I surely was just thinking back on it. :)
Thanks for your help and keep up the beauty bloggin’, ’cause I read it everyday here at work.

  8. brina says:

what about veet? I have been wanting to try cause Have tried the Nair and it doesnt work for me it always leaves stubbles and with 3 kids you cant exactly get even 5 mins alone to be naked.

  9. Cathy says:

wow!! you all are sooo lucky that this stuff works for u! i am WAY to nervous to try waxing down there but Nair and Veet and all the other creams out there dont do anything for me!! and it makes me soo sad!! :(

  10. baloni says:

michelle-have you ever used nair anywhere else? when i first started shaving my legs i tried nair and had quite a bad reaction to it-i have pretty sensitive skin and im afraid that area will be even worse.

  11. michelle says:

    Hey Baloni!

No I haven’t used the stuff on my legs, oddly enough the hair on my legs is very fine and never caused me much grief.

But the skin on your legs is far tougher than the skin by your “zone” so if you had a bad reaction from Nair on your legs, then I would NOT use it on my “zone”.

You might want to ask your derma or gynocologist for some suggestions because I would imagine that waxing is just as harsh for someone with such delicate sensibilities?

Let me know what you derma/gyno suggests if you do ask? I’m always interested in tips…

    Thanks,
    Michelle

  12. CM says:

I tried out Nair, and it came out to be the worst product ever! I followed the directions and did a patch, The patch was fine, but when it came to my legs, it KILLED them! My legs were burning and splotchy for 1-2 hours! I had bumps on my right leg and my left has red dots everywhere! Some of the hair didn’t come off.

Even though my legs were dying in pain, my arms were perfectly hairless.

  13. Jasmine says:

I heard these Parissa wax strips are amazing!

  14. manuela says:

oh I really feel bad cause I have been searching some miracle removal of 2008 and i found this :(
I swear you are all good!! but i tell you something
I tried them all!!! every little thing does just not work!
even the laser just take off 90% of the hair!!!! daaaah
