Boy oh boy, do we live in confusing times! Not only is it becoming increasingly more and more difficult to make the distinction between metrosexual and just plain ol’ gay: but now we have to worry about our fellahs stealing our eyeliner – Stop the madness!!
To be clear I realize that men who work in the industry (ie. TV, movies, music) often have to become camera ready before getting in front of the lens. However more and more of these chaps are sporting the makeup off camera and in everyday life. Which brings us to the question at hand, Makeup on Men – Rockstars, Freaks or Geeks?
Wow! To think there was a time I would lay awake at night and dream that someday I would become Mrs. Jordan Catalano!! (My So-Called Life) Now he just looks like a greasy jerk with a Marilyn Manson fetish…
First of all what exactly is Pete Wentz famous for? What does he do? Anyone?
Well regarding his excessive eyeliner use, I couldn’t tell you who or what this guy does BUT I do know every time I see him in a photo he is wearing eyeliner. I guess we all have to be known for something?…
Lastly this is my friend Welfrey who is a makeup artist for M.A.C. makeup. Now granted he is of the gay variety and I give him some slack because I feel his makeup use is an extension of his craft, however would you not die if your man wore this much makeup?!?
Am I wrong ladies? I am a very open minded gal but I just can’t get behind men wearing makeup! The occasional tweezing of the unibrow is fine, lotion and cologne is a-ok, but I draw the line at eyeliner and face powder.
I need all the bathroom counter space as it is, and by god if I have to fight a man early in the morning for bathroom beauty time, well folks there will be bloodshed is all I am saying!

Hey~ I think most guys agree with u! But I am a girl and some guys yeah its freakish with the whole eye shadow…but I think that a little eye liner well..that is not that bad! But its not great…i would have to say i lean toward the emo/skater ype though! But most of my guy friends..that are straight r like,” Dude thats like sick! What do they do when they get down and dirty…with eye liner runn’in down they’re face!” so i guess it just depends!
Um … Pete Wentz is the bassist, lyricist and pseudo-frontman for Fall Out Boy. You know, the big successful band? He also has a label who signed Panic! At The Disco. You know, another big successful band.

HATE IT!! NOW, like you Michelle, I grew up in Hair metal days, and did “scared to admit” date and chill with guys that wore just as much hairspray and makeup as I. BUT, It was a trend, ONLY,,, and on stage they were known for the “look” thats where it should stay ON STAGE!! MEN should really NOT wear makeup, Its not attractive. NOT even a little.AT the most “even on stage” just eyeliner. just for effect. “I wanna be the pretty , hot one thank you”

personally, i love guys who wear eyeliner. i don’t think there’s anything girly about it. i find it really attractive! eye shadow is a little harder for me to get used to, but i am in love with guyliner on most guys, when they put it on correctly.
i think guys that wear eyeliner r f*ckin hott as hell depending on all the other features. although then again i love the emo/skater boys! ; )eyeliner looks good on men if they have the hair and the body. but clothes r important 2! if u wear eyeliner u have 2 look like u shold wear it. like Pete : )
I actually love it when guys wear eyeliner. Some people don’t suit it and take it too far, but it can be hot. Just because they wear a bit of eyelier doesnt make them a freak or a geek. And nearly an guy you see wearin eyeliner is into rock music or heavier music. It’s a personal choice and I don’t think they should be looked upon as freaks because of this.
i think it guyliner is hot… at least on most guys. See, pete wentz is a babe in eyeliner. same with guys like gerard way, jared leto, and many very hot skaters. But if old guys wear it, it sorta freaks me out. i know that makeup is considered feminine, but guy can totally work it too. a lot of rockers wear it and its suiting for the mood they set. i know marilyn manson would not be as amazingly rockin if he didnt wear his gobs of makeup; however he is sort of a freak. but seriously, makeup does not make guys freaks… only personality does that. =)
I’m ALL ABOUT the dudes wearing makeup. Or maybe it’s because I resent the five minutes it takes my fella versus my 50 in the morning. But then again, how weird would it be to worry about getting his lipstick on your shirt collar??
It is extremely sexist and ridiculously closed minded to believe that make up was intended for women or gay men ONLY. When did such ludicrous notions come about? All men have just as much of a right to try and heighten their looks through the use of make up that women have. It says nothing of their sexual orientation, or personality attributes. Make up was never created for solely female use. It’s sad to see that today’s society is far more worried about such trivial matters as to whom should or shouldn’t be allowed to wear make up, than what really matters.
My boyfriend and I are getting ready to go out tonight, and he asked if i would put some eyeliner and mascara on him to go with his “rocker guy” look. He looked up this website to see what the world thinks about guyliner. He seems comfortable with it and I think it’s sexy! If other people don’t, who cares???

I don’t see what to big dela is with a guy wearing a little bit of eyeliner. I agree that a lot of male stars out there over do it, by a long shot. BUT I find that in a world where we have gays, lezbos, bisexuals, high gas prices, where we let horrible bands like Fallout Boy and Panic at the Disco “rock” our pop-cultured and post-modern world of the USA. We have GOT to accept men wearing make-up. We have bars fully dedicated to cross-dressing for f__s sake! I myself do not wear make-up, BUT IF i wanted to randomly someday, I would and I have. I am completly straight and I have worn make-up before, I have worn female costumes for halloween, as jokes I have dressed up as a girl and went to the mall with friends, I have done a lot of s__t that I think you might classify me as a “freak” for. But s__t, seriously, I dont see the HUGE problem with it, unles they do it day after day after day, and call themselves straight. If they are gay, thats another story.

The use of cosmetics on men pre-dates the Bible (see Ezekiel 23:40) and is well documented throughout Greek, Roman, European, and Asian history.
To answer your central question, there has never been anything wrong with men wearing makeup; it has always been sexy.
I’m a guy and I wear makeup. Foundation, eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow. Some guys do it to look like women, and there’s no shame in that whatsoever, some guys do it to be different, however the reason I do it is because I feel better about the way I look when I’m wearing it. I feel ugly without it, just as many women do. I think that people should be more open minded of the fact that guys are actually wanting to look good.
I wear make-up too and I’m no flaming queen; just comfortable with who I am. As long as I pay for my own make-up, who cares? Make up, wigs, and even high heels were NOT invented for women. Egyptian men wore make-up as protection from the sun and bugs. Men of the European courts HAD to wear high heels and make-up and wigs. Remember, the world was even more male-dominated when these things came to life. It really doesn’t matter. Some people thing that guys putting on hair gel is un-manly. I guess these same people want all guys to look fat, oily, and plain ugly like those in a Walmart check-out lane. Should we even bother shave, brush our teeth, wear certain colors, bathe?
You said in a response that you grew up in the age of hair metal… so surely makeup on men isn’t completely foreign to you. As for me, well I’m gay for one, but I think a lot of guys do overdo it. I think eyeliner can be alright but also don’t have the confidence to pull it off as an every day look. If I am going to an event, that’s another story.

Face it, women are probably more sexist than men and its unheard of to bring that to the table, I believe part of the reason why alot of guys act like macho, emotionally supressed f&%kwits is because of expectations – to “BE A MAN”.
Women battled their arses off for lib rights to fight on the front line, and that they do with liberation….. A man does something slightly outside social norms like wear makeup or nail polish and its a case of “I think he’s gay”.

Pete wentz is the awesome bassist and lyrisist of Fall Out Boy, an amazing band. He also made Panic at the Disco ( the best band ) and other bands more popular. Personally, I think eyeliner is hot on some guys. Ryan Ross I think, looks great in his make up. He doesn’t wear it anymore though… Brendon Urie, Pete Wentz, Gerard Way and emo guys look great in their eyeliner/make up to me. As long as you don’t look like marilyn manson (freak) I think it’s hot.
What I can’t get behind is the madness that people think it’s so weird for guys to wear make-up. Shut up, ladies, men wore it first – Stop complaining! It was a sign of power. In fact it’s a practically new social construct that women wear make-up. Men wear make up, generally, for expression that why it’s usually spetacular; women, generally, use it for covering up. I grant you though, there are exceptions. This is just the general observation.

Pete wentz… Is bassist, was from FALL OUT BOY but now he has his own band name The Black Cards… But in case of him, well not only him, general I thin eyeliner is not bad in guys, which I don’t like is eyes shadows, only if its for a character. Finally, eyeliner is not bad in guys but other make up is, so please be careful
I think men wearing make up is SUPER HOT! It is such a turn on to see men in makeup. I am a huge fan of make up wearing men including Marilyn Manson (Brian Warner), Adam Lambert, Twiggy Ramirez (Jeordie White), and Tommy Joe Ratliff. I think that it takes a lot of balls for a guy to wear makeup and in my opinion it pays off. Real men wear makeup!!!!
