Is It a Cuff or a Cozy

Will form and function emerge as a new accessory trend? If so, Trevor Coghill and Nathan Lee of Vancouver’s Contexture Design might be leading the wave with their dual-purpose coffee cuff (about $63). Part of the Brentwood line, this  bracelet is hand-made from  salvaged scraps of wood veneer like rosewood, ebony and zebrano.

The idea is that you can use the cuff for your daily cup, instead of wasting paper with that disposable cozy they give you. That’s cool, but honestly I’m just into the look of it.  I’ve been a fiend for wooden jewelry ever since I bought this chic little wooden ring from my trip to Tulum, Mexico this summer.  Enough about me, though, let’s get back to the issue at hand.

Contexture Design also makes belt buckles (look to the left), money clips, wallets, ice skates, shoes, and other fashionable items.

The coffee cuff has been selected for the Swell Future Friendly Design exhibit, which is part of Vancouver’s 30 Days of Sustainability Celebration that takes place every April and will feature pieces from designers around the world, who employ sustainability principles in the design, production and distribution of their products.
