Trend: A Bathing Ape Hoodies

I have to admit that I really missed the mark on the A Bathing Ape trend. I didn’t know anything about it until I heard on NPR Youth Radio that teens were mugging each other for these Bape hoodies, which cost upwards of $100.

From what I gather, the Japanese company that makes these wacky sweatshirts was founded by an artist named Nigo in the early 90s. Then in 2005, Nigo met Pharrell Williams and the rest is history–now there’s A Bathing Ape store in New York City and kids are going insane trying to get one.

I went to their flagship store in Japan, the workers don’t let you take any pictures of anything, NO merchandise, not even the sign outside (which btw their was a “line” just to get in) it was like Fort Knox!! Once inside t-shirts are literally kept in these like bullet proof kyrogenic individual chambers…no offense but I couldnt help but think, “What’s all the hype for!” …its a T-shirt folks! 150 bucks for a high quality cotten tee!! I guess I am getting old cuz I don’t get it…

The Emperor has NO clothes people!!

Bape is a dying brand its too expensive for something that isnt really worth it, you might as well buy a fake, type in bape in google there are a lot of fake sites,
